Icom IC-M330 / IC-M330GE

The IC-M330 is Icom’s smallest fixed-mount VHF radio: a 156.5 × 66.5 mm front, 25 W, Class D DSC with its own channel-70 receiver, IPX7, and a hand microphone (HM-235B in black, HM-235W in white) that is permanently attached to the set. It came out at the turn of 2017/2018 in four versions sharing one manual: the IC-M330 and IC-M330G for the US and other markets, the IC-M330E and IC-M330GE for Europe; the G versions add a GPS/GLONASS receiver with a small external antenna on a 5 m cable, and the German and Dutch sets also carry an ATIS ID. The bracket, the MBF-5 flush mount kit, the external speakers and the AIS link are the same for all four. It took over from the IC-M323/M323G (in the US the IC-M324/M324G), a bigger 180 × 82 mm set with the GPS receiver inside the front panel and the MB-132 flush mount kit. The larger IC-M423GE, IC-M430E and IC-M510E are separate models with their own manuals and accessories.

Wear parts & part numbers

PartOEM numberAlso fitsNote
Hand microphoneHM-235B · HM-235W1,2,3,4,5—The supplied hand microphone with channel up/down keys and a 16/C key: HM-235B black, HM-235W white. It is permanently attached, not plugged in; Icom France calls it non-removable and sells both colours as replacements, so ask an Icom dealer to fit one.
Installation kitMBF-56,1,2,7,8—Flush mount kit for an instrument panel up to 19 mm thick: cut-out 139 × 53 mm with R8 corners (template in the manual), two 5 × 8 mm bolts with spacers on the sides of the radio, clamps with end bolts, locking nuts at 2 N·m. Toplicht sells it as article 3938-335.
GNSS (GPS) antennaUX-240P · 08000160409,10,11,6—External GPS patch antenna with 5 m cable, supplied with the IC-M330G and IC-M330GE; 0800016040 is the spare-part number Icom France gives for it. It sticks on with the supplied double-sided pad and needs a clear view of the sky.
GNSS (GPS) antennaUX-2412—GNSS antenna that Icom America lists as the optional GPS antenna for the IC-M330 and IC-M330G. One source only: the European pages do not name it.
External speakerSP-373,12,2,13,6—Horn speaker that Icom names as the external speaker option for the M330 series. It goes on the blue (+) and black (−) leads; switch AquaQuake off while an external speaker is connected.
External speakerSP-249,14—External speaker, 7 W, 4 Ω, with 4.5 m cable, which Icom France lists as compatible with the IC-M330GE.
Power cableOPC-891A9,15,6—DC power cable; the radio comes with one that has the fuse holder built in. Icom France lists the OPC-891A as the compatible power cord for the IC-M330GE (also for the IC-M423GE and GM600); the manuals give no number, so one source only. Never cut the cable between the radio’s plug and the fuse holder.

AIS transponderMA-500TR · MA-510TR6,1,17—Icom class B AIS transponders that work with the M330: connected to the NMEA leads, they let you pick an AIS target and send it an individual DSC call through the radio without typing its MMSI.
CableOPC-20146,18—NMEA cable that comes with the MA-500TR. Wire the M330’s leads to it as follows: yellow (Listener A) to lead 3, green (Listener B) to lead 2, white (Talker A) to lead 5, brown (Talker B) to lead 4. For the MA-510TR follow its own manual.
CableOPC-IFMA500TR506 · OPC-IFMA510TR9,19,20—Ready-made 1 m NMEA in/out cords from Icom France between an MA-500TR or MA-510TR and Icom fixed VHF radios, listed for the IC-M330GE.
VHF antennaAH-BA00067 · AH-BA002479,21,22,6—VHF antennas that Icom France lists for the IC-M330GE: AH-BA00067, 3 dBi, 1.5 m, with nylon mount, 5 m coax and PL-259; AH-BA00247, 3 dB, 1.5 m, with 6.6 m RG58 cable and PL-259 (mount not included). For Europe the manual recommends at most 3 dB gain.
DC-DC converter (24 → 12 V)PS-PV12I9,23,6—24 to 12 V converter with isolated ground, 12 A continuous and 18 A intermittent, which Icom France lists for the IC-M330GE. The radio itself must never see more than 16 V.
MMSI reset toolDG-39759,24—MMSI reset dongle for the IC-M330 with a programming adapter board, sold by Icom France: a dealer tool for clearing a stored MMSI. Depending on the firmware, Icom also clears it with a one-time activation code (see the tips).
Installation kitMB-13218—Predecessor only: flush mount kit for the IC-M323, M323G, M324 and M324G, in a 165.1 × 62.4 mm cut-out. It does not fit the M330, which takes the MBF-5.

Numbers checked against the sources below on 23 October 2026. Always confirm against your serial number and exact type before ordering.

Service intervals

TaskInterval
Fresh-water washAfter every exposure to salt water: rinse radio and microphone with fresh water and let them dry before use, or salt crystals can jam keys and switches. Dust and dirt: wipe with a soft, dry cloth; no benzine, alcohol or other harsh solvents. If the waterproofing looks damaged, clean carefully with a soft cloth wetted with fresh water and dry it6
Electrical connectionsNo interval given. The DC plug and the NMEA and speaker leads are not waterproof: keep them wrapped in self-vulcanising rubber tape. If the radio does not switch on, check the power connection and the 10 A fuse in the DC cable, and fix the cause before renewing the fuse. NO POSITION and NO TIME on a G or GE: check the GPS antenna, its plug and its view of the sky6
DSC test callNo interval set by Icom. Send a DSC test call (Other DSC > Type: Test) on channel 70 to another station, picked from the address list or entered by its MMSI, and wait for the acknowledgement; by default the M330 itself answers incoming test calls automatically. Avoid tests on the distress and safety channels, or mark them clearly as tests. The DSC keys only appear once an MMSI is stored6

From Icom’s instruction manual for the IC-M330, IC-M330E, IC-M330G and IC-M330GE. Icom sets no maintenance schedule in hours or months and the radio has no parts for the owner to service; the manual asks for fresh-water rinses after salt spray, sealed and sound connections, a working antenna and GPS antenna, and DSC test calls.

Good to know

  • Buying used: look under Menu > Radio Info for the stored MMSI (and ATIS ID). The owner can enter the 9-digit MMSI only once, at the first switch-on, and German and Dutch sets take a 10-digit ATIS ID once; after that only a dealer or distributor can change them. Icom France sells the DG-3975 reset dongle for this. On newer firmware, Menu > Configuration > MMSI Clear shows a 16-digit request code; Icom then e-mails a one-time activation code that clears MMSI and ATIS ID together, and may ask for proof of purchase.6,32,24
  • Power: 13.8 V nominal, never more than 16 V. On a 24 V boat it needs a converter (Icom France lists the PS-PV12I). Mind the polarity (red +, black −), never cut the DC cable between the radio’s plug and the fuse holder, and wrap the DC plug and the NMEA and speaker leads in self-vulcanising rubber tape: only the radio itself is IPX7.6,23
  • Replacing an IC-M323 or IC-M324 with an M330: the old sets have a 180 × 82 mm front and sit with the MB-132 kit in a 165.1 × 62.4 mm cut-out, while the M330 needs the MBF-5 and a 139 × 53 mm cut-out in a panel up to 19 mm thick. The old hole is too big, so plan a filler plate or use the bracket instead.6,18
  • On the IC-M330G and GE, place the supplied GPS antenna (5 m cable) with a clear view of the sky and stick it down with its pad; if NO POSITION and NO TIME appear, check that antenna and its plug first. A GPS on the NMEA input takes priority over the antenna. Without any GPS you can enter position and time by hand, but they only last 23.5 hours or until switch-off, after which “??” blinks in their place.6
  • Muffled sound after spray: hold the AQUA soft key and the speaker vibrates for up to 10 seconds to shake the water out of the grille. Do not use AquaQuake while an external speaker is connected. An external 4 Ω speaker on the blue (+) and black (−) leads gets more than 4.5 W against the 2 W of the built-in one; Icom names the SP-37, Icom France also the SP-24.6,3,14
  • The VHF antenna goes on the SO-239 socket with a PL-259 plug; never transmit without one. For European installations Icom recommends an antenna of at most 3 dB gain, mounted at least 1.76 m above any spot people can reach; the US text allows up to 9 dBi but asks for 5 m above the deck. Keep the radio and its microphone at least 1 m from the magnetic compass.6
