Lagoon 42
The Lagoon 42 is a 12.80 m cruising catamaran designed by VPLP, with exterior styling by Patrick Le Quément and interiors by Nauta Design, built by Lagoon (CNB, Groupe Beneteau, based in Bordeaux) at its two Vendée yards in Poiré and Belleville, with three or four cabins. Lagoon launched it in 2015 and the first boats were sailing in 2016; the 1,000th hull was completed in November 2023, and Lagoon now shows the standard 42 as its previous model next to the four-cabin 42 Millenium limited edition. Two 45 hp Yanmar 4JH45 were standard for most of the run, and Lagoon’s pages list 2 × 57 hp from September 2023. Lagoon publishes no owner’s manual for the 42 online: its help centre points you to your dealer, or Lagoon sends the PDF by e-mail on request.

Good to know
- Lagoon’s recall of fixed Goiot emergency hatches applies to catamarans built 2007–2019 that have them, a span that includes 42s built up to 2019; the notice names no models (Lagoon’s 2020 press release speaks of hatches delivered before September 2018). The fix is a set of retaining brackets that hold the glass if it comes loose, and Goiot now recommends replacing these hatches every 10 years, kit or not. If a boat has not been treated, contact a Lagoon dealer or service centre with the model and the HIN.20,21
- The standard engine changed: every inventory and brochure up to 2020 names the Yanmar 4JH45 (45 hp), Lagoon’s old site still showed 2 × 45 hp in March 2023, and the new site lists 2 × 57 hp (the 4JH57 of the configurator) from September 2023. The 57 hp engine was also an option from 2019, so read the engine plate before you order filters, impellers or belts.3,8,10,6
- Lagoon’s own figures for the 42 changed over the years: 12.80 m long in the 2015–2020 documents, 13.32 m overall on the 2024 page and 13.22 m (hull 12.79 m) from 2025; beam 7.70 m, later 7.68 m; fuel 300 l standard or 600 l with the second tank, 570 l on the 2025 page. A listing with other figures is not necessarily a different boat: compare it with the Lagoon document of its build year.3,12,13,14
- Used 42s differ a lot in equipment because much of it came in packs: the Essential pack adds a second 300 l fuel tank under the aft port cabin floor, two more 140 Ah batteries, a 40 A charger, an electric winch to port and the B&G navigation pack. Electronics, generator, watermaker and air conditioning were separate options. Ask the seller for the original order or specification.7,6,3
- Match the inventory to the build year: the October 2015 preliminary list (launch boats) has three winches, a single 80 l holding tank and light oak joinery; the April 2018 and July 2020 lists have two winches, a holding tank per head and walnut joinery, and the 2020 list adds a touch-screen panel for the tank gauges.1,2,3
- The 42 Millenium is a four-cabin limited edition with its own equipment list, which Lagoon’s page does not itemise: ask the dealer for it before you order parts. Lagoon also shows a Seanapps on-board unit and phone app on this model for remote checks of batteries, tanks and maintenance.11,18
