Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 349
The Sun Odyssey 349 is a 10.34 m family cruiser by Marc Lombard and Jeanneau Design that made its world debut at the Paris boat show in December 2013 as a 2014 model and stayed in the range until the Sun Odyssey 350 took over, shown at boot Düsseldorf in January 2024; Jeanneau’s last equipment list is dated June 2022 and the last Sun Odyssey brochure with the 349 is the 2023 edition. It has a hard chine, twin rudders and twin wheels, two or three cabins with one head, and three keels: a 1.98 m deep fin, a 1.49 m winged shoal keel and a swing keel drawing 1.26 to 2.54 m. Every list from 2013 to 2022 gives the same engine, a 21 hp Yanmar 3YM20 on a 25 mm propeller shaft rather than a saildrive; only the alternator grew, from 80 A in the first list to 125 A by 2016. Jeanneau America put sales at nearly 1000 boats in December 2023, YACHT a month later at about 1400. There is no owner’s manual to download: Jeanneau’s help centre sends a digital copy on request, and the equipment lists of November 2016, November 2019, January 2021 and June 2022 are still online.

Good to know
- Jeanneau has no owner’s manual for the 349 to download. Its help centre says a digital copy exists for almost every Jeanneau and sends it on request through the help button on help.jeanneau.com; brochures and equipment lists that are not online, such as the July 2014 list once linked from the old website, can be asked for there or from customer service at info@jeanneau.fr, as long as Jeanneau still has them in its archive.22,23,24
- Spare parts and part numbers come only through Jeanneau dealers, who ask for the boat’s HIN or CIN, so have it ready. For the engine, Jeanneau will look up the archived technical data on request; the Yanmar 3YM20 itself is serviced with Yanmar parts.25,26,4
- Unlike many boats of its size, the 349 has a shaft drive, not a saildrive: every list from 2013 to 2022 gives a 25 mm stainless shaft with what Jeanneau calls a maintenance-free stuffing box, but no make for the seal or the propeller. Check the seal type and shaft size on the boat before ordering, and note that the first boats had an 80 A alternator, later ones 125 A.1,2,3,4
- Three keels were built, with draughts that differ by more than a metre: the 1.98 m deep fin (1580 kg), the heavier 1.49 m winged shoal keel (1860 kg) and the swing keel at 1.26 to 2.54 m (1532 kg), which YACHT tested with hydraulic operation in March 2014 and which appears in the lists from 2016. Jeanneau’s brochures say a swing-keel boat left to dry out unattended should stand on beaching legs, and that the owner must judge sea state, wind and seabed before taking the ground.1,2,4,7,10,6
- Jeanneau names no autopilot, chartplotter or instruments for the 349: every list only provides a space for instruments within reach of the helms. What is fitted differs from boat to boat, so note the units and their generation before you buy spares or a replacement.1,3,4
- Equipment depends on trim level and pack as much as on the year: Première brings the charger, shore power, water heater and second domestic battery, Préférence adds the audio system and cockpit shower, and the Limited Edition of 2021 and 2022 is easy to spot by its grey hull, stickers and black lazy bag, with the Performance pack, swim platform and windlass included. Ask which trim and packs a boat has before trusting a listing.3,5,4,14
