Lagoon 450
The Lagoon 450 is a 13.96 m cruising catamaran designed by VPLP (Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prévost), with interiors by Nauta Design, and built by Lagoon (CNB, Groupe Beneteau) in Bordeaux with infused hulls and deck. Presented in 2010 to replace the Lagoon 440, it kept the flybridge helm reached from both sides of the cockpit and the forward cockpit, as an owner’s version with three cabins or with four cabins. From 2015 the flybridge boat was sold as the 450 F alongside the 450 S SporTop, which has its helm on the aft coachroof bulkhead. In 2021 the Lagoon 46 replaced the model, after nearly 800 boats.

Good to know
- Forward bulkhead: Lagoon reported in 2021 that on a fair number of 450s the side parts of the forward bulkhead, next to the cabin doors, buckle or crack. Lagoon and VPLP say this is not a safety issue but recommend reinforcing or repairing it: a Lagoon dealer or service centre inspects it (about 4 hours, paid by Lagoon), and Lagoon supplies a repair kit and a procedure for the boat. Boats after hull 36 (2012) got extra stiffeners at the factory. Have it checked at a survey.13,14
- Rig tuning depends on the hull number: 450 F up to hull 294 have lower shrouds, from hull 295 a front diamond instead. Lagoon’s dock-tune table gives 16 mm cap shrouds, 12 mm diamonds, 150 mm mast pre-bend and the minimum and maximum load for each wire.15
- Before ordering engine parts, read the engine plate: Lagoon’s documents for 2010–2014 boats only say 2 × 40 hp with saildrive, the 2015 inventories name the Yanmar 4JH45 (57 hp option), and the owner’s manual also shows a Volvo installation.4,1,3
- With the standard fixed propellers, leave both gear levers in neutral when sailing faster than 8 knots. At every haul-out check that the propellers turn freely without play. Check the anodes, including those on the saildrives, at least twice a year, replace any before it has lost half its weight, and renew them all every year.3
- The windlass only runs with an engine running, because its interlock relay is fed by the alternator. If the port engine has failed, switch on its ignition only: the windlass then works from the service batteries while the engine alarm sounds.3
- 450s built up to 2019 with fixed Goiot emergency hatches in the hulls fall under Lagoon’s recall for catamarans built 2007–2019: retaining brackets that hold the glass if it comes loose. Goiot now also says these hatches must be replaced once they are 10 years old, kit or not. Ask a Lagoon dealer or service centre, quoting the HIN.16
