Lagoon 46
The Lagoon 46 is a 13.99 m cruising catamaran with naval architecture by VPLP, exterior styling by Patrick Le Quément and an interior by Nauta Design, built by Lagoon (CNB, Groupe Beneteau) in Bordeaux with infused, balsa-cored hulls and deck. Shown at Boot Düsseldorf in January 2019 as the successor of the Lagoon 450, it moved the mast further aft with a short boom and a self-tacking jib, put the flybridge helm on the centreline and comes with 3 cabins (owner’s version) or 4, each with its own head. Lagoon counted 185 boats sailing by February 2021 and now sells the same hull as the Lagoon 46 Iconic. There is no owner’s manual to download: Lagoon’s help centre refers owners to their dealer or, failing that, to info@catamarans-lagoon.com for a PDF.

| Engine | Yanmar 4JH57 × 23,4,7,8,9Option on 2019–2020 boats (‘Extra for 2 × 57 HP (Yanmar 4JH57)’ in the March 2019 configurator; in June 2020 it appears in the folding-propeller and electronic-throttle options); Lagoon’s pages of 2021–2023 list 2 × 45 or 2 × 57 hp, the current 46 and 46 Iconic pages 2 × 57 hp as standard | Yanmar 4JH45 / 4JH57 Parts & service page | Lagoon does not say from which hull the 57 hp became standard, and its current pages do not give the engine type. Read the engine plate before ordering filters, impellers or belts. |
| Saildrive | Saildrive × 21,2All years (inventories of January/May 2019 and July 2020: ‘sail drive’); leg type not named | — | Lagoon names no saildrive model, so read the plate on each leg before ordering seals, anodes or oil. |

Check the boat. |
| Windlass | 12 V · 1700 W1,11,2,3,5Inventories of January/May 2019 and July 2020: vertical windlass in the chain locker with a 12 mm gypsy; maker not named. Good to know
- Read the engine plate before ordering filters, impellers or belts. Lagoon’s 2019–2020 inventories and configurators list 2 × Yanmar 4JH45 (45 hp, common rail) as standard with the 57 hp 4JH57 as an option; its pages of 2021–2023 offer either, and the current pages list 2 × 57 hp as standard without saying from which hull.3,2,7,8
- Lagoon’s rig figures changed during 2019: the 25.07 m mast clearance of the January 2019 inventory and the 23.99 m air draught of the 2018 brochure became 23.21 m, the upwind sail area went from 140 m² to 127 m² (123 m² with the standard mainsail), the self-tacking jib from 50.5 m² to 46.5 m² and the draft from 1.30 m to 1.35 m. Lagoon does not say whether the rig changed or the figures were corrected, nor from which hull, so get your hull’s sail plan before ordering sails or relying on a bridge clearance.12,11,6,2
- Two Lagoon 46s can be equipped very differently. Chargers, the 220 V circuit, extra service batteries, the electric winch, the B&G navigation pack, Fusion audio and the second fridge came in the ‘Essential’ pack; generator, air conditioning, watermaker, inverter and solar panels were separate options. Check what the boat actually has before ordering parts.3,4
- US-specification boats have a 120 V panel and sockets, a propane system with solenoid valve, a holding tank with gravity drain and deck pump-out in each head, a 110 V water-heater element and, in the first inventory, a 1/2″ windlass gypsy for inch chain. Keep this in mind when buying parts for an imported boat.11
- Lagoon’s recall of fixed Goiot emergency hatches covers catamarans built from 2007 to 2019. The first Lagoon 46s were built in 2019, so ask a Lagoon dealer with your hull number (HIN) whether your boat is included. Lagoon also passes on Goiot’s advice to replace these hatches every 10 years, whether or not the retaining kit was fitted.15,14
- 46 or 46 Iconic: Lagoon publishes the same hull length, beam, air draught and sail areas for both. The Iconic adds a redesigned forward lounge with more sun pads and a forward swim ladder; Lagoon does not say which spare parts the two share.9
