Jabsco Twist ’n’ Lock (29090 / 29120)

The Twist ’n’ Lock is Jabsco’s long-running hand-pumped marine toilet. A double-acting piston pump flushes and empties the bowl, and twisting the handle locks the outlet valve shut against flooding and backflow. It comes with a compact (29090) or regular (29120) bowl; the pump and its wear parts are the same on both. Four generations since 1986 — told apart by the handle colour — each have their own service kit, and the current complete pump fits all of them.

Full service	Once a year: winterise in autumn, overhaul with the service kit in spring. No in-season maintenance is normally needed¹

Lubrication	After a lay-up, pump warm fresh water through; at overhaul, silicone grease on the piston O-ring and cylinder bore only¹
Winterising	Every autumn: drain the whole system (base plug out, discharge flange off, hoses off the seacocks); Jabsco advises against antifreeze, glycol-based only if any¹

Good to know

Identify the generation by the handle: black = -0000 (kit 29045-0000), light grey = -2000 (29045-2000), dark blue = -3000 or newer (29045-3000). If an old pump is too far gone, the complete pump 29040-3000 fits them all.²
Never lubricate the top or bottom valve gaskets, and no sealant on gaskets or hose tails. Only the piston O-ring and cylinder bore get silicone grease.¹
Waste coming back into the bowl points to the base valve gasket or the joker valve. If the bowl will not empty and the handle is hard to push, open the outlet seacock, shut the flush lever fully, then check joker valve, discharge hose and seacock for a blockage.¹
To take the handle off, grip the piston rod only within 16 mm of the handle, wrapped in tape — any mark on the rod’s sealing surface quickly ruins the new seal.¹
Clean with liquid ceramic cleaner and diluted disinfectant only. Bleach, acetone and thick toilet gels crack the plastic and damage valves, gaskets and the seat finish.¹
Close both seacocks after every use and whenever you leave the boat. If the bowl rim can ever sit below the heeled waterline, fit vented loops on inlet and outlet.¹
