Axopar 28
The Axopar 28 was the first model of the Finnish builder Axopar Boats: a walkaround day cruiser with a twin-stepped hull for one or two outboards, launched for model year (MY) 2014 as the 28 Open, the 28 T-Top with a canvas sun top and the 28 Cabin with an enclosed wheelhouse, plus the 28 AC and 28 OC with a cabin under the aft deck. For MY2018 Axopar enlarged the hull (8.75 m instead of 8.60 m, 2.95 m beam, higher sides, new stringers) and kept only the Open, T-Top and Cabin, with the aft cabin as an option; the MY2021 refresh brought a new helm console and Simrad instead of Garmin electronics. Every 28 was priced as a hull without engine and pre-rigged for Mercury outboards, which is why used boats carry anything from about 150 to 400 hp. Axopar said in 2018 that the 28 was sold through some 60 dealers in about 30 countries; it was still on the builder’s site in November 2024 and is no longer in the range in 2026.

Good to know
- Identify the boat by the hull identification number on the starboard side of the transom (FI-AXO…). In the 2018–2023 manuals the letter after the model number is A for Open, B for T-Top and C for Cabin; the last two digits are the model year, the digit before them the last digit of the build year, and the letter before that the month (A = January).41,2
- Mark 1 boats (MY2014–2017, 8.60 m, 2.85 m beam, with the AC and OC versions) and facelift boats (MY2018 on, 8.75 m, 2.95 m beam, higher topsides) have different hulls and different owner’s manuals, and boats from MY2021 have the new helm console with Simrad instead of Garmin electronics. Ask for the model year before ordering covers, cushions or windscreen parts. Axopar’s manuals page dates the Mark 1 as MY2014–2018, while the first MY2018 price list already describes the larger hull, so check a boat sold as MY2018 against its papers.5,36,19,34,43
- Axopar’s documents give different fuel capacities (245, 260, 280 and 300 l; 240 l for US/EPA boats), so go by the label on the tank or the boat’s own papers rather than an advert. The 2021–2023 manual describes checking the fuel-tank compartment for water through the aluminium pipe on top of the tank, and checking the fuel filter for water every two months.3,5,19,6,2
- The optional Side-Power bow thruster sits under the foredeck; lift out the bottom of the storage box to reach it. It runs off the auxiliary battery, and the manual allows only short bursts, at most four runs of 30 seconds within 25 minutes, because it can overheat.1
- Winterising: drain the fresh-water system completely (Axopar advises against antifreeze in it), clean and flush the toilet and holding system while still afloat and drain it after lifting. Run the macerator now and then, as it can seize when left unused.1,2
- Much of the equipment was optional and varies from boat to boat: trim tabs, Mercury Active Trim, windlass (Engbo in the MY2016–2019 lists, Quick in 2020–2022), Webasto heater, Dometic fridge, shore power with charger, Garmin or Simrad electronics. Go through the specific boat’s equipment list instead of assuming a standard spec.4,6,21,23,31
