Fountaine Pajot Astréa 42
The Astréa 42 is a 12.58 m cruising catamaran by Fountaine Pajot, drawn by Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design and built at the yard in Aigrefeuille near La Rochelle; it had its world preview at La Grande Motte in April 2018 and was named European Yacht of the Year 2019 in the multihull class. It was sold as the Maestro, with the owner’s suite in one hull and two double cabins in the other, or as the four-cabin Quatuor, with two 30 hp saildrive diesels as standard (2 × 50 hp optional from 2019), and from September 2023 also as the Astréa 42 Smart Electric with electric motors, a generator and a 2 × 21 kWh battery bank. By April 2025 it had left the builder’s range menu. Fountaine Pajot publishes no owner’s manual and no equipment list for the boat online, so the equipment below is only what the builder’s own pages state; documentation goes through its owner’s requests form with the hull number.
Manuals & documents
Fountaine Pajot publishes no owner’s manual or equipment list for the Astréa 42: owners ask for documentation through the builder’s request form or its extranet login (the first two links). The other links go to the builder’s own pages and publications, many as archived copies of pages it has since changed. We host nothing.

Equipment & its manuals
Standard equipment as the builder’s documents list it. Boats were ordered with options and refitted since — check what is actually aboard.
| Item | Model | Manual / page | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine | Diesel 30 hp × 21,2,3,4Standard on all diesel boats, 2018 onwards, with saildrives | — | Fountaine Pajot gives only the power. Its pre-owned buying guide (August 2026) says Volvo Penta is the most common engine on the Astréa 42s in circulation, without naming a model or saying it was the only make, so read the engine plate before ordering filters, impellers or belts. |
| Engine | Diesel 50 hp × 25,6,3Option, on the builder’s page from 18 August 2019 (not yet on the 13 June 2019 page), with saildrives | — | Listed as ‘Option Power 2 × 50 HP’; make and model not named. |
| Saildrive | Saildrive × 24Diesel boats; make and model not named by the builder | — | The builder’s buying guide tells you to check the condition of the saildrives. Read the plate on each leg before ordering seals, anodes or a propeller. |
| Engine | Smart Electric 25 kW × 23,7,8,9Astréa 42 Smart Electric (shown September 2023): electric motors of the Smart Electric pack, labelled ‘Pack ODSea+’ from December 2024 | — | Fountaine Pajot says it develops the system itself, independent of engine brands, and does not name the motor make. |
| Generator | 16 kW3,7,8Smart Electric pack | — | The builder says all its electric catamarans keep a combustion generator for periods without sun or wind. Make not named. |
| Batteries | 21 kWh × 23,7,9Smart Electric pack (‘Battery Park 2x21 kWh’) | — | The builder says its electric catamarans use LFP lithium batteries that need no cooling system. Make not named. Option: an upgraded battery, capacity not stated. |
| Charger | 3 kW × 23Option for the Smart Electric (‘Upgraded charger 2x3 kW’) | — | Make not named. |
| Inverter | 3 kW3Smart Electric pack | — | Make not named. |
| Inverter | 6 kW3Option for the Smart Electric: additional AC inverter, 9 kW in total with the standard one | — | Make not named. |
| Chartplotter | Garmin10,11,12,13Not stated: the builder names Garmin as its navigation partner, but no models and not what is standard or optional | — | The Astréa 42 page says the boat has navigation technology from the builder’s partner Garmin, and Fountaine Pajot calls Garmin the partner that equips its sailing catamarans; its 2020 magazine describes a ‘Smart Cruising’ energy and tank display on Garmin screens for the range. Check which plotter, instruments and autopilot are on board before ordering parts. |
| Hydrogenerator | —3,9Smart Electric pack: hydrogeneration included (energy recovered under sail) | — | The builder’s technology page describes hydrogenerators with two propellers giving almost 1 kW each at about 8 knots (range statement). Make not named. Until this key exists, the page shows it as the ‘hydrogeneration’ spec row. |

Good to know
- Fountaine Pajot publishes no owner’s manual or equipment list for the Astréa 42. For technical documentation or spare parts, use the owner’s requests form on its website: choose the Astréa 42 and give the hull (HIN) number, and the builder says an expert for your area answers. Its site also links an extranet login, and its 2019 magazine said members of its owners’ Yacht Club could reach their boat’s manual online.18,19,20
- Which hull belongs to the owner in the Maestro? The builder’s 2019 magazine says starboard, its 2026 pre-owned guide says port. Go by the boat itself or its layout drawing, not by a listing, before ordering parts for one side.20,4
- The builder’s figures changed in summer 2019: unloaded displacement from 11.5 t to 12.7 t, mainsail from 65 m² to 70 m², and a 2 × 50 hp option appeared. Fountaine Pajot does not say whether the boat changed or only the figures. Before ordering a mainsail, a sail cover or engine parts for an early boat, give the hull number through the owner’s requests form and ask which figures apply.5,6,18
- The Astréa 42 Smart Electric has 2 × 25 kW electric motors, a 16 kW generator, 2 × 21 kWh of batteries, hydrogeneration and a 3 kW inverter instead of two diesels. Its propulsion and electrical parts differ from the diesel boats, so say which version a part is for.3,8
- The builder’s own checklist for a used Astréa 42 (August 2026): engine hours and service history, the condition of the saildrives, wear on sails, halyards and sheets, and a test of the autopilot, navigation instruments and any watermaker in real conditions, plus logbooks, yard invoices and an independent survey.4
- Bathrooms differ from boat to boat: the builder offered 3 bathroom options for the Maestro and 6 for the Quatuor, and it names no toilet make. Count the heads and look at the toilets actually fitted before ordering toilet spares.2
