Lagoon 410
The Lagoon 410 is a 12.37 m cruising catamaran designed by VPLP (Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-Prévost) and built by Lagoon – Construction Navale Bordeaux, part of Groupe Beneteau – from 1997 to 2006. Lagoon calls it the brand’s first production-volume catamaran, and its vertical hull windows became a Lagoon hallmark. After more than 100 boats came the 410 S2 – on Lagoon’s website by December 2002 – with all lines led back to the helm, an electric halyard winch and more standard equipment; Lagoon counts 283 boats of both series together. Both came as a standard version (4 cabins, 2 heads), a charter version (4 cabins, 4 heads), an owner’s version (4 cabins, 3 heads) and a US owner’s version with the whole starboard hull for the owner, all with two saildrive diesels of 27–28 hp under the aft berths – the Yanmar 3GM30F in Lagoon’s 2000 option lists – and from 2004 an electric-propulsion option.

|---|---|---|---|
| Engine | Yanmar 3GM30F × 21,2,3,4,5,6,7,8Named in Lagoon’s option lists of November 2000 (propeller and fridge kits for the Yanmar 3GM30F saildrive); Lagoon’s specifications of 2001 to 2005 give 2 × 27 hp saildrive (2 × 28 hp in the 1997 launch data and the 2004 data tables) without naming the maker | Yanmar 3GM30F Parts & service page | Under the aft-cabin berths; on the S2 the berth lifts on gas struts. Engine stop in the cockpit, dual-lever control at the helm, seawater filter, fuel filter with water separator. Many used 410s have larger Yanmar three-cylinders (YACHT’s 2023 test boat: 2 × 38 hp), and the owner’s manual gives 65 kW as the maximum engine power, so read the engine plate before ordering parts. |
| Engine | Electric drive, 144 V (option)9,10Option for the 410 S2 from 2004: electric motors with large propellers, fed by 12 AGM batteries at 144 V DC, recharged by the freewheeling propellers under sail; maker not named | — | Lagoon reported a fair number of orders in 2004. A boat with this drive needs entirely different propulsion parts, so check what is fitted. |
| Saildrive | Yanmar SD20 × 21,5,11,12Lagoon writes only ‘saildrive’ (‘SD’ in the 2000 option lists); behind the saildrive version of the 3GM30F (3GM30FC) Yanmar fitted the SD20 | — | Boats with the larger Yanmar engines have a bigger leg, so check the plate on each leg before ordering the diaphragm, anodes or oil. |
| Propeller | Max-Prop 2-blade 16″ (option)1,2Lagoon names no standard propeller; the November 2000 option lists offer a two-blade 16-inch Max-Prop for the 3GM30F saildrive | Max-Prop feathering propellers Parts & service page | |

Lagoon gives the sizes in Harken’s code format without naming the maker (the 2004 sheet writes 46 ST, 32 ST and 40 STE), so check the drum before ordering parts. |
| Windlass | Electric, 12 V (1000 W in 2001, 800 W in 2004)3,4,5,15In the anchor locker: 1000 W in the 2001 specification, 800 W in January 2004, ‘12 V electric’ in September 2005; maker not named. The S2 brochure mentions a rigid chain conduit | — | US-spec S2 boats have a gypsy for inch chain (2005). |

| Toilet | Manual marine head, large size × 2–416,5,7Standard version 2, owner’s version 3, charter version 4, US owner’s version 2 or 3 heads (2001–2005 specifications); maker not named | — | The aft port head drains to a holding tank with gravity drain and deck pump-out; US-spec boats have one in every head. Close the toilet seacocks after each use, as the owner’s manual asks. |
| Fridge | 12 V compressor, 180 l + 145 l icebox16,4,5,7,12001, 2004 and 2005 specifications: a 180 l fridge with a 12 V compressor and a 145 l insulated icebox in the galley; the 2005 owner’s manual gives 190 l (front-opening) and 150 l; maker not named | — | Options in 2000: a second 12 V unit with a 200 l plate, a water-cooled unit and a Frigoboat compressor driven by the 3GM30F. |
| Stove | Gas, 2 burners + oven16,4,5,72001–2005 specifications; a 4-burner cooker with oven is an option in the 2005 owner’s manual; maker not named | — | Gas locker in the cockpit (2004, 2005). Check the regulator every year and renew the hoses as your country requires (owner’s manual). |
| Water pump | 12 V pressure pump4,5,7,1One main fresh-water group (2004, 2005 specifications); maker not named | — | A filter sits before the pump: clean it regularly and never run the pump with an empty tank (owner’s manual). Each shower drains through its own pump with a filter; foot pumps for fresh and seawater at the galley were options. |

| Bilge pump | 2 × 12 V automatic + 2 × manual4,5,72004 and 2005 specifications; maker not named | — | Electric pumps 17 l/min, manual pumps 0.75 l per stroke. A valve switches the electric pump between the sump and the engine bay, and the watertight forward and aft compartments drain through their own seacocks (owner’s manual). |
| Batteries | 12 V: 2 engine + 2 house3,4,5,7,1,82001: 2 × 60 Ah engine and 2 × 124 Ah house batteries; 2004–2005: 2 × 70 Ah start and 2 × 140 Ah service batteries with a charge splitter | — | Options in 2000: a fifth 140 Ah battery and a 40 A charger (220 or 110 V). Good to know
- Lagoon no longer offers the 410’s owner’s manual as a download. If your dealer cannot supply it, Lagoon sends the PDF on request to info@catamarans-lagoon.com; the English manual of the 410 S2 (update 22/12/2005) also survives as an archived copy, with layouts of the plumbing, bilge, seacocks and 12 V circuits.22,7
- Read the engine and saildrive plates before ordering filters, impellers or leg seals: Lagoon’s 2000 option lists name the Yanmar 3GM30F with saildrive, but its spec sheets never name the engine, and many boats now have larger Yanmar three-cylinders – YACHT’s 2023 test boat had 2 × 38 hp.1,5,8
- Lagoon’s reefing table for the 410 S2 gives the highest true wind for each sail plan: full sail 22 knots, one reef 25, one reef with 70 % genoa 28, two reefs with 70 % genoa 32, two reefs with 30 % genoa 37, three reefs with 30 % genoa 44. Never combine two reefs with the full genoa – Lagoon warns that this can break the mast.7
- The forward trampoline carries at most 500 kg or three people and must not be jumped on; Lagoon advises renewing it every two years in normal use.7
- Deck and bridgedeck are balsa-cored, so on a survey check that every deck fitting is well bedded and look for damp core, as YACHT advises. The engines sit under the aft berths; on YACHT’s test boat sealed panels in the deck above them allow an engine to be lifted out.8,5
- Have the whole steering system overhauled every year and check the cable tension at least once a year. Know where the emergency tiller goes: lift the aft cover, open the cap and fit it on the rudder-stock head.7
