Fischer Panda 4000s / 5000i / 8000i

Fischer Panda of Paderborn builds its smallest marine diesel generators as fresh-water-cooled sets in a GRP sound capsule (PMS); this page covers the Panda 4000s.Neo, 5000i.Neo and 8000i and the predecessors that share their parts and documents. The 4000s.Neo is a fixed-speed asynchronous 230 V set with Fischer Panda’s own FPE320 single-cylinder engine; the 5000i.Neo uses the same engine and the same 150-hour service kit but runs at variable speed with a PMGi inverter and the iControl2 panel, and the 8000i is the larger inverter set with a two-cylinder Kubota Z482. Older sets included here are the 5000i with a Kubota EA300, the 4000s FC and 4500 FCB/SCB/SCE with Farymann 18W430 engines, and the fixed-speed Panda 8000 / 8000 NE with the same Z482 as the 8000i. Fischer Panda does not use the name “8000i Neo”: the current 8000i is the 2025 “G3 Basic” build, and since neither Neo model has a DC alternator, their starter battery needs its own charger.

The maker’s current edition of the sheet is no longer on its website, so check the copy supplied with your generator. An owner video quotes the 2025 sheet for the 8000i as asking for the valve clearance at 50 h and then every 300 h instead of every 600 h; we could not check that, so it is not used here.

Good to know

  • The 4000s.Neo and 5000i.Neo have no DC alternator: give the generator its own starter battery with a separate charger, or it may refuse to start after a long lay-up.1
  • If cooling water takes more than about five seconds to reach the exhaust after a start, the impeller has lost its grip: change it before broken vanes block the cooling circuit. Don’t keep one pump going for years on new impellers alone, as a worn shaft seal lets raw water into the capsule; carry a spare impeller and a spare pump.29
  • A generator above the waterline wears impellers fast because the pump runs dry for a few seconds at every start: a loop in the raw water hose close to the inlet, or a non-return valve below the waterline, keeps water in the pump. Coral sand is just as harmful, so fit a raw water strainer.1
  • Change a dripping raw water pump at once: the belt pulley sprays the water around the closed sound capsule, and corrosion sets in quickly.36
  • Check which kit you need before ordering: the Neo kit 0015691 contains an oil filter, but the 5000i (Kubota EA300) and the older 4000s have no spin-on oil filter and take Service Kit 1 (0000688) or the 4000s kit (0006378).4,5
  • On the asynchronous sets (4000s.Neo, Panda 8000 NE) the capacitors can hold a dangerous charge after shutdown: disconnect the battery and short-circuit the capacitors before you work in the AC box.1
