Raymarine · Chartplotter
Raymarine Element
Element is Raymarine’s keypad-operated chartplotter and fishfinder range for small motorboats, RIBs, fishing boats and day sailers, sold since 2019 in 7, 9 and 12 in sizes below the touchscreen Axiom family. Element S has a single 200 kHz High CHIRP sonar channel for CPT-S transducers; Element HV adds HyperVision, which runs DownVision, SideVision and RealVision 3D at 1.2 MHz and 350 kHz from one HV-100 or HV-300 transducer. Both run the simplified LightHouse Sport software and have built-in 10 Hz GPS/GNSS, Wi-Fi (Quantum radar, Raymarine app, online updates) and NMEA 2000, but no RayNet, so they cannot be networked with an Axiom or older Raymarine multifunction displays. Housing, screen, power cable, sun cover and mounting kits are the same for S and HV of one size; only the built-in sonar and the transducer socket differ.

Service intervals
| Task | Interval |
|---|---|
| Software update | No fixed interval: check regularly; from v3.20.88 the display looks for updates at start-up when online. Update online over Wi-Fi (Settings > Getting started > Update software > Check online) or from a microSD with the download; the same process updates other SeaTalkng devices. Before you start, put a Quantum radar in standby, back up your data and keep the power steady9 |
| Data backup | Regularly and before every update or factory reset: My data > Import/export > Save data to card writes waypoints, routes and tracks as a .gpx file to \Raymarine\My Data\ on the microSD; restore with Import from card9 |
| Fresh-water wash | Fit the sun cover whenever the display is off (take it off at speed and when towing). Clean with the power off: rinse the screen and the sticky inside of the sun cover with fresh water, let them dry, then wipe gently with a microfibre cloth. No abrasives, ammonia, solvents or pressure washer1 |
| Electrical connections | Regularly, with the power off: look for chafed, cut or nicked cables and check that every plug is fully home with its locking collar engaged. Display and transducers have no user-serviceable parts1 |
| Transducer care | Transducer: clean the face regularly, as growth can cut sonar performance within weeks. Soft cloth and mild detergent; a green scouring pad for moderate growth; fine wet-and-dry paper only for heavy growth. Never acetone or other harsh solvents10 |
| Transducer care | Transducer antifouling, if used: renew at least every 6 months with a water-based antifouling, brushed on in a thin coat; never copper- or ketone-based paint10 |
From Raymarine’s Element installation instructions 87360, the LightHouse Sport operation instructions 81388 and the HV-100 installation instructions 87362. Raymarine sets no maintenance schedule in hours or months for the Element displays; the only fixed period is the six-monthly renewal of transducer antifouling.

Good to know
- Match the transducer to the display. The Element HV needs an HV-series transducer (HV-100 on the transom, HV-300 through the hull) for HyperVision, RealVision 3D, SideVision and DownVision; a CPT-S or older DownVision transducer works on it only through the A80559 adaptor and then gives only its own channels. The Element S takes CPT-S transducers directly and cannot use HV transducers. Pick the right transducer in the start-up wizard, or the display reports no transducer until a factory reset.1
- Element is a closed system: no RayNet, and it must not sit on the same SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone as an Axiom or an older a, c, e, eS or gS display. Two Elements can share waypoints, a Quantum radar connects over Wi-Fi only (Element on v3.19.17 or later for radars on v2.52 or later), and engine data comes in through an ECI-100 gateway. Wired radar, cameras, sonar modules or a multi-screen network need an Axiom instead.1
- Power: 12 V only (8 to 16 V), on its own 5 A fuse or 3 A breaker, and fed from a different battery than the engine-start battery to avoid erratic behaviour and data loss. If you lengthen the power lead, size the cable so at least 10.8 V reaches the plug with a flat battery. Never cut or splice a transducer cable, and use one A80562 extension at most (total run 10 m for the HV-100, 6.3 m to each HV-300).1
- Updating: if the online update stops for lack of storage space, put a microSD with at least 2 GB free in the slot and the download goes there. Save waypoints, routes and tracks as .gpx first. LightHouse Charts Gen 2 cards need v3.20.65 or later, the Australia/New Zealand charts v3.18.11 or later. If you ever go back from v3.13.76 or newer to v3.10.10 or older, do a factory reset straight after (Home + Power at switch-on).1,8
- Transducer care: run the sonar only with the transducer in the water, clean growth off its face regularly (detergent, then a green scouring pad; no acetone) and use only water-based antifouling, brushed on and renewed every six months. Tighten the HV-100 pivot bolt to no more than 4 Nm and leave enough cable slack at the transducer for it to pivot.10
- Refit and screen care: the Element 7, 9 and 12 each have their own cut-out (about 225 × 120, 269 × 146 and 331 × 199 mm), so print the official template at actual size and check it before cutting. Keep the sun cover on when moored, close the card door fully so no water gets in, and clean the screen only with fresh water and a microfibre cloth.26,27,28,1
