Torqeedo Travel
The Travel is Torqeedo’s portable electric tiller outboard for tenders, dinghies, small daysailers and small racing sailboats up to about 1.5 t: the lithium battery clicks onto the shaft head, and the tiller display shows charge, speed and the remaining range from built-in GPS. This page covers three generations, called Gen 1 to Gen 3 here: Gen 1 (from 2010) is the geared Travel 503 and 1003, including the 1003 C with a 915 Wh battery from 2017; Gen 2 is the direct-drive Travel 1103 C (2019), 603 (2021) and 903 C (2023), which keep the same 29.6 V batteries, tiller, charger and kill switch. Gen 3, sold from 2024 as Travel and Travel XP and later joined by the smaller Travel XS, is a new 44 V platform with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, the TorqView app and over-the-air updates, and its batteries, propellers, fins, anodes and chargers have their own item numbers. There is no oil, impeller or spark plug: owner care comes down to propeller and drive pin, anodes, plug contacts and battery charge, plus a seal service every five years at a Torqeedo service partner.

Good to know
- Gen 1 and 2 batteries: store them at about 50 % for up to a year, fully charged if they will sit longer (then top up once a year), never below 20 %, ideally at 5–15 °C and out of the sun. After a few months in storage charge once to 100 % so the charge display recalibrates; 99 % is not enough.2
- Gen 3 (2024 on): store the battery at 50 % and 5–15 °C, check it every 3 months, and charge to 100 % only just before a trip. Update all components before first use and look for updates regularly; Torqeedo also wants a battery update in the TorqView app before you use the 12/24 V cable 7011-00.7
- In salt water, tilt the motor out after use, rinse it with fresh water and store it dry; treat all plug contacts with contact spray and grease the transom clamp threads. Fit the zinc shaft anode 1939-00 on a 603, 903 or 1103 C, add the transom-bracket anode set 7003-00 on Gen 3, and check the anodes every 6 months, replacing them as a set.2,17,7
- If the motor spins but the boat barely moves after a grounding or a caught rope, the drive pin has probably broken. Carry a spare pin and nut (005-00051 for the 503/1003, 067-00140 for the 603/903/1103 C), check the shaft for fishing line, and refit the nut hand-tight (13 Nm).53,2
- All 29.6 V Travel batteries (320, 500, 530 and 915 Wh) fit every 503, 603, 903, 1003 and 1103, but the 1003 and 1103 run at half power on the 320 Wh battery, and the 1103 on the 500 Wh too. The Gen 3 batteries (1166, 1167) fit only the new Travel, Travel XP and Travel XS, so check the item number on the label before buying a spare.2,17,15,18
- Buying a used battery: look for the printed inspection date; Torqeedo says not to use a battery past it without a check by Torqeedo Service. Expect about 80 % of the capacity after 500 full cycles. A battery that has been under water (even briefly deeper than 1 m, or more than 30 minutes in shallow water) belongs with Torqeedo Service; do not try to recover it yourself.2
