Webasto Air Top 2000
The Air Top 2000 is Webasto’s smallest diesel air heater: 2 kW nominal, modulating down to 0.9 kW, and the one found in most sailing and motor boats up to about 40 ft, as well as in camper vans and truck cabs. It draws fuel from the boat’s tank through its own dosing pump, burns it in a sealed chamber with separate combustion-air intake and exhaust, and blows cabin air over the heat exchanger. This page covers the ST generation (12 V petrol or diesel, 24 V diesel, including the 12 V marine version) and its successor, the STC, which brought a new control unit, the DP42 dosing pump and new control elements (rotary rheostat, MultiControl/SmartControl, SmarTemp in North America) while keeping most burner and casing parts. Webasto’s spare parts lists print ST and STC side by side; where numbers differ, the notes say which fits which.

Good to know
- Always switch off at the control element and let the fan run on; cutting the power before the after-run has finished can damage the heater.6
- F01/F02 (no start, flame-out): check the fuel supply, filter and dosing pump, the glow pin, and that intake and exhaust are clear. F03 is usually a tired battery or a thin supply cable.8
- Feed the heater from the service battery, not the starter battery, and keep the hot-air inlet and outlets clear: blocked ducting trips the overheat sensor.10
- When ordering parts note ST or STC, 12 V or 24 V, petrol or diesel and the production number on the type plate: the hot-air fan and inlet hood changed from production number 976400, and control units and drives are version specific.2
- New installs on a boat: keep the exhaust short (max. 2.5 m with silencer, 5 m without), fit the intake silencer if the intake hose is over 0.6 m, insulate an exhaust over 2 m, and use the stainless marine exhaust with a condensation drain.10
- After filling the tank with winter diesel, run the heater for about 15 minutes so its own fuel line is purged of summer fuel.6
