Yamaha F30 / F40
Yamaha’s F30 and F40 are one engine in two power settings: a 747 cc in-line three with a belt-driven overhead camshaft and six valves, weighing 94–102 kg and common on aluminium fishing boats and RIBs. The carburettor generation, the F40B (model code 67C) from 2000 and the F30A (69H) from 2001, had three carburettors; for the 2009 model year Yamaha switched to multi-point fuel injection, with model codes 6BG for the F40 and 6BT for the F30. The injected engine was sold in Europe as the F40F and F30B until 2025 and as the F40A, F40EA, F40EHA, F30A and F30EHA since 2026, and in Australia and the US under names such as F40FETL, F40LA, F40LEHA and F30LA; the 30 and 40 hp versions take the same service parts. The carburettor engines share the impeller, thermostat, external anodes and propeller hardware with it, but need their own pump kit, spark plugs, timing belt, oil filter and fuel filter. The European F40G, F40H, F40L and F40N are 996 cc four-cylinder engines and are covered on the F50/F60/F70 page.

Hours or months, whichever comes first, from Yamaha Europe’s owner’s manual 6BG-28199-7J (first edition November 2025, F30 and F40); the 2012 edition for the F30B and F40F, 6BG-28199-76, gives the same intervals but does not yet list the throttle body and the clamp bracket bolt. The chart assumes about 100 h of use a year and regular flushing; “dealer” marks the jobs Yamaha leaves to its dealers. Under severe use (long trolling or full-throttle running, too little warm-up, frequent starts, shifting or changing loads) Yamaha asks for every service twice as often. Yamaha has no owner’s manual for the carburettor F30A and F40B online, so they have no chart of their own here.

Good to know
- Read the model code on the serial label before you order: 6BG (F40) and 6BT (F30), with a K added from 2018, are the injected engines; 67C (F40B) and 69H (F30A) are the carburettor engines of 2000–2009, which need a different pump kit, spark plug, timing belt, oil filter and fuel filter. Mind the names, too: a European F30A or F40A of 2026 is the current injected engine, an Australian F30AETL the old carburettor model, and a European F40G, F40H, F40L or F40N a 996 cc four-cylinder.93,97,22,98
- For an oil change, let the engine idle for 5–10 minutes with the motor upright, stop it and wait another 5–10 minutes, then pump the oil out through the dipstick guide or open the drain screw and fit a new gasket 90430-14M09-00 (27 N·m). It takes 1.5 l, or 1.7 l with a new filter, so measure the oil and check the dipstick before topping up.22,86
- The camshaft runs on a toothed belt that Yamaha wants checked every 100 h or yearly and replaced at 1000 h. On the injected engines it is 6C5-46241-00-00, the same belt as on the F50, F60 and F70; the carburettor engines take 65W-46241-00-00.22,61,63,66
- The injected engines have three fuel filters. Check the clear cup under the cowling before every trip: if enough water has collected to lift the float ring, have the tank checked and cleaned by a dealer. The in-line strainer (6C5-24251-01-00) and the high-pressure filter in the vapour separator tank (6BG-13915-01-00) are on Yamaha’s service list too. With fuel containing ethanol, Yamaha recommends an extra water-separating filter (at least 10 micron) between tank and engine.22,1,39,42,94
- Flush after every trip in salt water: with the engine off, screw a garden hose onto the connector on the bottom cowling and let fresh water run through for about 15 minutes; tilting the motor clear of the water helps. Then screw the connector back on firmly, otherwise cooling water escapes there and the engine overheats.22
- Apart from the trim tab and the anodes on the lower unit and clamp bracket, the injected engines have four small anodes in the cooling jacket and one on the exhaust guide. Yamaha has those in the cylinder head checked every 100 h and the ones on the exhaust cover and exhaust guide replaced every 500 h, both by a dealer; never paint the external anodes.22,28,54,70
