Excess 11
The Excess 11 is an 11.42 m (37 ft) cruising catamaran and the smallest model of Excess, a catamaran brand of Groupe Beneteau run by CNB (Construction Navale Bordeaux); VPLP drew the boat, Patrick Le Quément the exterior and Nauta Design the interior. Its two helm stations sit on the aft beam next to the sail controls, the vacuum-infused hulls have a balsa core, and two Yanmar 3YM30 diesels drive saildrives; there are 3- and 4-cabin layouts, both with two heads. It premiered at boot Düsseldorf in January 2020 and reached its 200th hull in April 2024; since 2024 it carries an overlapping genoa instead of the self-tacking jib, and a Hybrid version with electric pods followed in 2025. Excess publishes no owner’s manual: owners get their boat’s documents in the My Excess portal, which needs an account.

Good to know
- Find out which builder list matches the boat before ordering parts: the January 2020 list has lead-acid batteries, the December 2020 list AGM batteries, and only the April 2024 list shows the overlapping genoa (two sheets on tracks and a furling line instead of the self-tacking jib’s single sheet and track) and Garmin electronics. Boats from the first season differ in several details.3,2,1
- Navigation electronics are not standard: they came with the ‘Sail Away’ option pack (Raymarine i70s and p70 on the 2020 lists, a Garmin 7″ display and autopilot on the 2024 list). A boat without the pack has no autopilot, plotter or wind and depth instruments from the builder, so ask what was fitted later.1,2
- Each Yanmar 3YM30 sits under its own GRP hatch in the hull. The fuel shut-off valves are under the berths of the aft cabins, the fuel fillers on the aft beam to port and starboard, and there is an opening for an extinguisher nozzle into the engine compartment. Under ‘Fuel system’ the April 2024 list calls the two 200 l tanks ‘fresh water tank’; that is a misprint.1
- With the Pulse Line pack the mast is taller (air draft 18.26 m instead of 17.27 m), which matters under bridges and power lines in marinas.8
- Hybrid boats (from 2025) have 48 V electric pods under the hulls, with no saildrive and no mechanical transmission, plus a generator and lithium batteries. The diesel and saildrive parts linked from this page do not fit them.6
- Excess publishes no owner’s manual for the Excess 11. Owners register on the builder’s My Excess portal for the boat’s documents, tutorials and checklists; when buying used, ask the seller for what they downloaded there.26
