Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440
The Sun Odyssey 440 is a 13 m cruising monohull that Jeanneau has built at its Cholet plant since 2017, designed by Philippe Briand with Piaton Bonet Yacht Design and Jeanneau Design; it opened the current Sun Odyssey generation and was European Yacht of the Year 2018 in the Family Cruiser class. Side decks without a step from the cockpit to the bow, a chine along the full length, twin rudders and an L-shaped cast-iron keel set it apart, and Jeanneau offers 2, 3 or 4 cabins (layouts A to D), a deep or shoal keel, a standard or Performance rig and a Yanmar shaft-drive diesel of 45 hp or, as an option listed by November 2018, 57 hp. Jeanneau counted 500 hulls by December 2023, and the boat is still in the range in 2026. There is no owner’s manual to download: Jeanneau’s help centre sends a digital copy on request, and the equipment lists of November 2019, January 2021 and September 2023 are still online.

Good to know
- Jeanneau has no owner’s manual for the 440 to download. Its help centre says a digital copy exists for almost every Jeanneau and is sent on request through the help button on help.jeanneau.com; a brochure or equipment list that no longer opens (for the 440 the lists of September 2017, March 2020, July 2021 and June 2022) can be asked for from customer service at info@jeanneau.fr.15,16
- Spare parts and part numbers come only through Jeanneau dealers, who ask for the boat’s HIN or CIN, so have it ready. For the engine, Jeanneau will look up archived technical data on request, but a duplicate engine certificate or the engine documents come from Yanmar or its local representative.17,18,19
- Jeanneau names no autopilot, chartplotter or instruments for the 440: the lists only provide space for a flush-mounted GPS at each helm and an area for navigation instruments on the cockpit table. What is fitted differs from boat to boat, so note the units and their generation before you buy spares or a replacement.3
- The engine is reached behind the companionway steps and from the aft cabins; the 200 l fuel tank and the fuel/water separator sit under the aft-cabin berth. On layouts B and C the second 200 l tank there is a water tank as standard, but Jeanneau offered a fuel tank in its place, so check what is fitted and how the manifold is set before filling.3
- Two keels were offered: the 1.60 m shoal keel is the heavier at 2670 kg, against 2280 kg for the 2.30 m deep keel. The brochures of 2017 to December 2018 gave the deep keel as 2.2 m and Jeanneau does not explain the change, so if draft matters for a berth or a channel, ask the dealer or Jeanneau for the figure of that hull.2,10,8
- Equipment varies with trim level and pack as much as with the year: Première brings the 40 A charger, two extra service batteries, the cockpit windlass control and the bowsprit, Préférence the interior comfort items, and the Performance pack (layouts A, B and D) a taller two-spreader mast and composite wheels, the two signs to look for. Ask which trim and packs a boat has before trusting a listing.3
