Privilège 435

The Privilège 435 is a 13.13 m cruising catamaran with the range’s typical bridgedeck pod, designed by Marc Lombard and built by Groupe Alliaura Marine in Les Sables-d’Olonne, the former Jeantot Marine. It replaced the Privilège 42, was presented at the autumn 1999 boat shows and stayed on Alliaura’s website unchanged until late 2004; the Privilège 445 that followed is the same boat with longer transoms as standard. Alliaura sold three versions, and they matter when you order parts: À la carte (fixed keels, 2 × 28 hp Volvo saildrives, fixed three-blade propellers), Easy Cruise (hulls lengthened to 13.45 m, 2 × 40 hp, cherry joinery, four heads, generator, watermaker, inverter) and Performance (lengthened hulls, daggerboards, carbon mast, Spectra sails, 2 × 28 hp with Max-Prop propellers), both also with autopilot and radar/plotter. Alliaura names only Volvo and the power, never the engine type, so read the engine plates before ordering filters or impellers. Alliaura itself is gone: since 2012 the yard has carried on as Privilège Marine, which still looks after existing Privilèges.

Manuals & documents

Alliaura Marine published no owner’s manual online, and we found no owners’ association with a document archive. The shipyard carries on as Privilège Marine (the first two links); most other links are archived copies of Alliaura’s own pages from 1999 to 2004, which describe the boat as sold, not every boat as built. The Multihulls World tests are for subscribers. We host nothing.

Equipment & its manuals

Standard equipment as the builder’s documents list it. Boats were ordered with options and refitted since — check what is actually aboard.

ItemModelManual / pageNote
EngineVolvo 28 hp × 21,2,3,4À la carte and Performance: two 28 hp Volvo saildrive diesels in the equipment list for model year 2000 (1 December 1999), unchanged on Alliaura’s pages until 2004; the main page says 2 × 27 hp—Alliaura never names the engine type. By power and period this is probably an MD2030 of Volvo Penta’s MD2010–MD2040 family, which our MD2030 page covers, but read the plate on each engine before ordering filters, impellers or belts.
EngineVolvo 40 hp × 21,5,6,7Easy Cruise: model year 2000 list and Alliaura’s Easy Cruise pages up to 2004—The boat Bateaux sailed in November 1999 was an Easy Cruise with these engines. The type is not named here either; at 40 hp it is probably the MD2040 of the same family, so check the plates.
SaildriveVolvo S-drive × 21,2,8,7All versions; Alliaura writes ‘Volvo S-Drive’ or ‘Sail-Drive’ without naming the leg—The engines sit far forward for weight distribution, so the propellers are well ahead of the rudders (Bateaux, 1999). Each engine room has a second access hatch at the back of the cockpit and foam sound insulation.

Good to know

  • There is no owner’s manual for the 435 online. Alliaura Marine is gone, but the yard in Les Sables-d’Olonne carries on as Privilège Marine, which offers owners technical assistance, maintenance and refits; ask through its contact form, giving your hull number, whether documents or drawings for your boat still exist.20,21,16
  • Find out which version you have before ordering anything: Easy Cruise and Performance have hulls lengthened to 13.45 m (À la carte 13.13 m), Easy Cruise has 40 hp instead of 28 hp engines, and Performance has daggerboards, a carbon mast, Spectra sails and Max-Prop feathering propellers instead of fixed three-blade ones.1,10,6
  • Don’t order sails or rigging from Privilège 445 data. Alliaura gives every 435 a 17.75 m mast, a 64 m² mainsail and a 47 m² genoa, while the yard’s 2011 figures for the 445 are an 18.80 m mast and a 67 m² mainsail.4,9,19
  • Each Volvo saildrive leg is sealed to the hull by a rubber seal. Volvo Penta’s instruction book for its MD2010–MD2040 saildrive engines (2000 edition) wants it changed every 7 years by an authorised workshop, so on a boat from 1999–2004 ask for proof that it has been done. The same book allows only copper-thiocyanate antifouling near the drive, never copper oxide or tin-based paint.1,22
  • Alliaura’s specification tables give 380 l of fuel, but its equipment lists describe one 420 l aluminium tank with gauge (and one 600 l stainless water tank). Measure the tank before you order a new sender or a replacement.4,8,9
  • Alliaura offered a ‘Certificate of Building Surveillance’ by Bureau Veritas on request. When buying a 435, ask whether one was issued for the boat, since it was only issued on request.11,4
