Garmin ECHOMAP UHD / UHD2

ECHOMAP UHD and ECHOMAP UHD2 are Garmin’s mid-size chartplotter and fishfinder combos for small motorboats, RIBs and fishing boats, with built-in GPS, Wi-Fi for the ActiveCaptain app and ClearVü sonar, plus SideVü on the sv models; all run on 9 to 18 V, are IPX7 and take one microSD card. The first generation (2019: 6 in keyed 62–65cv, 7 in touchscreen 72–75cv/sv, 9 in touchscreen 92–95sv) took over the housings of its 2017 predecessor, the ECHOMAP Plus, so mounts, covers and power cables carry over between the two. ECHOMAP UHD2 is new hardware that shares none of them: keyed 5 and 7 in cv units without NMEA 2000 (2022) and touchscreen 6, 7 and 9 in sv units with NMEA 2000, LiveScope support and preloaded Garmin Navionics+ charts (2023). Beneteau and Jeanneau offer both generations, usually as a 7 or 9 in unit, in the electronics packs of the Antares 8 and the Merry Fisher 795 and 895.

Software updateNo fixed interval: after installation and whenever you add an accessory or sensor. Compare the version under system information with Garmin’s list (September 2026: UHD2 v45.01, UHD 7x/9x v29.01, UHD 6x v14.10, Plus v13.30/v13.40), then update over Wi-Fi with the ActiveCaptain app or with a blank card prepared in Garmin Express. Insert the card only once the home screen shows, start the software update and leave the card in until the unit has restarted. One update card also brings Garmin Marine Network devices and NMEA 2000 sensors up to date; other plotters on NMEA 2000 only are updated one by one127,128,129,124
Chart updatesChart updates: Garmin Navionics+ charts (preloaded on the UHD2, or on a card) come with one year of daily updates once activated in the ActiveCaptain app; pull them through ActiveCaptain, or write whole charts to a card with Garmin Express. Electrical connectionsAt every installation or refit: every plug fully seated (a half-inserted plug causes power or sonar drop-outs), locking rings tight or the 6 in locking bracket clicked shut, unit clicked into its cradle, weather caps on unused sockets.   • Check the generation before buying used spares. The ECHOMAP UHD (2019) and the ECHOMAP Plus of the same screen size share cradle, bail mount, flush kit, sun cover, trim and power cable; the ECHOMAP UHD2 needs its own covers (010-13116-0x), trim caps (010-13341-0x), mounts and, on the sv, the two-pin power cable 010-13115-02. The part number on the label tells you which one you have: 010-02329 to 010-02344 and 010-02518 to 010-02525 are first-generation UHD, 010-02589 to 010-02596 and 010-02679 to 010-02690 are UHD2.6,143,9,51,61,47,62
  • Mind the transducer plug. The 6 in UHD and the UHD2 5 and 7 in cv have a 4-pin socket (the GT20-TM fits directly, the 8-pin GT24UHD-TM needs adapter 010-12719-00); the UHD 7 and 9 in sv and the UHD2 sv have a 12-pin socket for the GT54UHD-TM and GT56UHD-TM, and older 4-pin or 8-pin transducers stay usable with adapters 010-12718-00 or 010-12122-10. On a 7 in UHD cv check the socket first. Route the transducer cable away from other wiring and clip the supplied ferrite on close to the plug.80,131,39,2,9
  • Wire the power through the ignition or a switch and leave the 3 A in-line fuse in place (taking it out voids the warranty); extend the power leads with at least 0.82 mm² (18 AWG). Only first-generation UHD and Plus units use the blue and brown wires (NMEA 0183, on the 6 in also user-data sharing); on the UHD2 they stay unused, and the UHD2 cv has no NMEA 2000 at all. When joining an NMEA 2000 network of another make, put Garmin’s power isolator 010-11580-00 in between, and feed the backbone from one power cable only.80,131,39
  • Update the software before chasing faults: compare the version on the unit with Garmin’s list, then update through ActiveCaptain over Wi-Fi or with a blank card from Garmin Express. First-generation UHD and Plus read FAT32 cards up to 32 GB only (8 GB class 10 is ideal); the UHD2 takes exFAT cards up to 1 TB from software 34/35. Insert the update card only once the home screen shows, and do not pull it before the restart has finished.127,128,124
  • Chart cards: Garmin lists Garmin Navionics+ and Navionics Vision+ cards (such as 010-C1271-20 U.K., Ireland & Holland) for the 7 and 9 in ECHOMAP UHD and every UHD2, but not for the 6 in UHD cv or the ECHOMAP Plus, which stay with BlueChart g3 and g3 Vision cards. Cards and preloaded charts have to be activated in the ActiveCaptain app before every feature shows.83,87,127
  • Keep salt out of the contacts: dry card, gasket and door before you close the card slot, put weather caps (010-10817-03/-04) on unused sockets and, on the UHD2 sv, on the cradle socket when you take the display home. Clean the screen only with an eyeglass cleaner that is safe for anti-reflective coatings, never with ammonia-based cleaners.128,39,80
