Bali 4.2
The Bali 4.2 is a 12.84 m flybridge cruising catamaran from Bali Catamarans (Catana Group), built since 2020/21 by Chantier Catana in Canet-en-Roussillon, France, as the successor to the Bali 4.1: concept by Olivier Poncin, naval architecture by Xavier Faÿ, interiors by Lasta Design Studio and, from the 2024 model year, by Piaton Bercault. Like the other Bali models it has a solid foredeck with a forward cockpit instead of trampolines, a watertight door from the saloon to that cockpit and the large tilting aft door that opens the saloon to the aft cockpit. It comes with three cabins (owner’s suite in the port hull) or four cabins and four bathrooms, and the standard engines changed from 30 hp Yanmar to 29 hp Nanni N3.30 with the 2024 model year. Bali publishes no owner’s manual: owner documents sit in a members’ area behind a login, so this page links the builder’s spec sheet for each model year instead.

Equipment & its manuals
Standard equipment as the builder’s documents list it. Boats were ordered with options and refitted since — check what is actually aboard.
| Item | Model | Manual / page | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine | Yanmar 30 hp × 21,2,3Standard on the spec sheets A-2021 (2020/21) to B-2023 | — | Bali names only the make and the rating, never the engine model. The model page offered up to 2 × 45 hp Yanmar as an option (2020 and May 2023). Mechanical (cable) engine controls at the helm. Read the engine plate before ordering filters, impellers or belts. |
| Engine | Nanni N3.30 × 24,5Standard from the A-2024 spec sheet (December 2023), also on A-2025: 29 hp | Nanni N3.21, N3.30, N4.38 & N4.50 Parts & service page | Option: 2 × 47.5 hp; the sheets name neither make nor model of the bigger engine. Both engine rooms are fully separated from the accommodation, each with its own fuel filter and water separator. |
| Propeller | —5All model years: fixed 2-blade propellers on the saildrives; 3-blade folding propellers as an option | — | Bali names neither the saildrive nor the propeller make. |
| Windlass | 1000 W5All model years: vertical windlass with corded remote control, depending on the pack | — | Make not named. Stainless anchor roller under the forward platform. |
| Winches | 2 + 15,6All model years: one electric winch for the main halyard and one for the solent sheet, mainsheet and reefing lines (electric as an option), plus an optional third sheet winch to port; on the September/October 2020 sheets the electric winch also worked the furling line and the davits | — | Make and size not named. Mainsheet on the flybridge, self-tacking solent on a coachroof track, automatic reefing for the first two reefs depending on the pack. |
| Steering | Ø 800 mm5,7,6All model years: cable steering with a rigid link bar, two balanced spade rudders, one wheel at the raised starboard helm; composite wheel on the 2020 sheets, aluminium from March 2021 | — | The emergency tiller fits through a stainless deck cap in each sugarscoop. |
| Autopilot | Raymarine P70S5,8Raymarine electronics Pack 1 on every sheet from A-2021 to A-2025, depending on the pack chosen | — | Bali names only the pilot control head, not the drive or the course computer. An optional Pack 2 exists; its contents are not listed. |
| Chartplotter | Raymarine Axiom 7″5,8Raymarine electronics Pack 1 on every sheet from A-2021 to A-2025, depending on the pack chosen | Raymarine Axiom Parts & service page | GPS chartplotter. The sheets say Axiom 7″ for every year without naming the generation; the label on the unit tells. |
| Instruments | Raymarine i70s5,8Raymarine electronics Pack 1 on every sheet from A-2021 to A-2025, depending on the pack chosen | Raymarine i70 & i70s Parts & service page | |
| VHF | Raymarine Ray635,8Raymarine electronics Pack 1 on every sheet from A-2021 to A-2025, depending on the pack chosen | — | |
| Fridge | 336 l5All model years: combined fridge/freezer with chilled-water dispenser and its own inverter | — | Make not named. Some early sheets also carry a stray paragraph about a 402 l + 213 l fridge with ice maker from another model; the galley section and headline of the 4.2 give 336 l. Dishwasher for 6 place settings optional. |
| Stove | —5,9All model years: 3-burner gas hob, gas oven depending on the pack, locker for a 13 kg gas bottle and a spare | — | Make not named. Microwave and a gas grill in the starboard aft locker are options (December 2025 brochure). |

Battery switch with manual emergency parallel, low-charge alarm at the chart table. Option: 2 extra 12 V alternators (125 A; 120 A on the A-2025 sheet). |
| Charger | 12 V · 2000 VA / 80 A · 1600 VA / 70 A5,10All model years, depending on the pack: inverter-charger | — | The English text of every sheet from 2020 to A-2025 says 2000 VA and 80 A, the French text 1600 VA and 70 A, so read the label on the unit before ordering. Make not named. |
| Shore power | 230 V · 25 m5,7,6All model years: shore-power circuit with a 25 m cable; 220 V on the A-2021 sheets | — | |

Good to know
- Check which engines the boat has: boats built to the A-2021 to B-2023 sheets left the yard with 30 hp Yanmar diesels, boats from the 2024 model year with 29 hp Nanni N3.30 as standard, and either may have the optional bigger engines (up to 45 hp Yanmar at first, 47.5 hp later). Filters, impellers and saildrive parts differ, so read the engine plate before ordering.4,1,2
- Much of the standard list is marked “according to chosen pack”: the windlass, the electric winch functions, Raymarine Pack 1 (P70S, Axiom 7″, i70s, Ray63), the inverter-charger, the gas oven and the davits. A used boat may have more or less than its model-year sheet shows, so go by the boat’s own inventory.5
- The spec sheets contain misprints, so do not take every figure literally: the first issue of September 2020 is headed “Bali 4.3” on its pages, the English sheets of May 2024 and A-2025 print 24 V where every French sheet says 12 V, the English and French texts disagree on the inverter-charger (2000 VA/80 A against 1600 VA/70 A), and some early sheets carry stray paragraphs from another model, such as a 402 l + 213 l fridge with ice maker and a touchscreen panel.6,5,10
- Tank figures vary between sheets: the headline says up to 860 l of water while the plumbing list has one 800 l tank, and the earliest 2020 sheets gave 800 l or 600 l of fuel before the 2 × 320 l layout. If exact capacities matter, ask for the boat’s own CE documents.5,6
- At a survey, work the tilting aft door and the watertight door to the forward cockpit through their full travel. On the 4.2 the aft door is lifted with gas-strut assistance, so tired struts show at once, and Bali relies on a gasket at the bottom and a brush seal around the frame to keep it tight, so check both for wear.11,5
- Do not confuse it with the “Bali 4.2 Loft” shown on the builder’s website in 2014: that was a different, earlier design, and by January 2015 the site listed the Bali 4.3 in its place. The Bali 4.2 on this page is the design launched in 2020 (first spec sheet September 2020), so check the build year when a listing says Bali 4.2.15,16,6
