Raymarine Axiom

Axiom is Raymarine’s range of touchscreen chartplotters (multifunction displays) running the LightHouse operating system, sold since 2017 in sizes from 7 to 24 in. The 7, 9 and 12 in displays keep one housing across three generations, Axiom (2017), Axiom+ (2020) and Axiom 2 (2026), and come either chart-only or as RV versions with RealVision 3D sonar built in. Axiom Pro (2017) and Axiom 2 Pro (2023) add a keypad, a 12/24 V supply and stronger sonar; Axiom XL (2018) and Axiom 2 XL (2023) are 16 to 24 in helm screens without sonar. Every model runs LightHouse 4, while LightHouse 5 (2026) is for the Axiom 2 generation only.

Software updateCheck regularly; from LH4 v4.10.149 the display looks for updates itself at start-up when online. Before updating: back up, put autopilot and radar in Standby, keep the power steady and do not interrupt. All networked displays must run the same version. Update from microSD (unzip the download first) or online in the settings menu; an original Axiom 7/9/12 needs a blank microSD of at least 4 GB in the slot even for an online update, never a chart card26
Software updateBack up regularly and before every update: save waypoints, routes and tracks (.gpx) and the settings (.lh3) to a microSD card through My data > Import/export; the files land in the Raymarine\My Data folder. Restore with Import from card (a settings restore reboots the display). Digital-switching dashboard pages are not included26
Fresh-water washFit the sun cover whenever the display is not in use (take it off at speed or when towing). Clean with the power off: rinse the screen and the sun cover’s tacky inner face with fresh water, let them dry, then wipe gently with a microfibre cloth. No solvents, ammonia, abrasives or pressure washer1

Good to know

  • Match the transducer to the model: chart-only Axiom, Axiom+ and Axiom 2 and both XL ranges have no sonar inside and need a network sonar module. RV and RVX models take the RV-100 and other RealVision transducers directly and DownVision or CPT-S through the A80490 adaptor; only the Axiom 7 DV takes CPT-100DVS or CPT-S directly. The RVM-100 is for the Axiom 2 Pro RVM only, the Axiom 2 Pro S runs CPT-S units through A80490, and the HyperVision HV-100 is on no Axiom compatibility list.1,6
  • The first-generation displays (Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro, Axiom XL) stay on LightHouse 4, which now gets only maintenance and security fixes; new features go to LightHouse 5, which runs on the Axiom 2 range only (an Axiom 2 on v4.10.149 or older needs a 4.11 release first). LH4 and LH5 displays do not network with each other, so a boat with both generations keeps every display on the same LH4 version.34,33
  • Update pitfalls from the manual: an original Axiom 7/9/12 cannot hold an online download, so put a blank, formatted microSD of at least 4 GB in the slot first, never a chart card. An Axiom 2 Pro on v4.3.54 must go to v4.4.70 before anything newer and cannot go back below it afterwards. On an Axiom+ 7 the screen stays dark for about 1.5 minutes while the touchscreen recalibrates: take the sun cover off, keep the glass dry and do not touch it.26
  • Axiom, Axiom+ and Axiom 2 share housings, cut-outs, mounting templates and spares (power cable R70523, sun covers, trunnion and rear kits), so a newer unit drops into an older Axiom’s hole. Axiom+ brought IPS screens with more pixels on the 7 and 9 in (1024 × 600 and 1280 × 720 instead of 800 × 480), 16 GB instead of 4 GB and HydroTough glass, but no DV version; Axiom 2 adds a six-core processor, 64 GB and gigabit RayNet.2,3
  • The 7/9/12 in models run on 12 V only (8–16 V, 7 A fuse), so a 24 V boat needs a converter; Pro and XL models take 12 or 24 V on a 15 A fuse. If you extend the power cable, size it so that at least 10.8 V reaches the display with the battery at 11 V. Never unplug a transducer with the display switched on, and never cut a transducer cable: a damaged one is replaced, not spliced.1
  • For refits: adaptor plates (A80524 to A80529 and A80564 for the 7/9/12, A80530, A80531 and A80533 for the Pro) re-use the cut-outs of e7, C/E Classic, a-, c- and eSeries plotters. SeaTalk 1 gear joins through the E22158 kit, NMEA 0183 through A80721 and SeaTalkhs cables through A80160. Only an original Axiom, an Axiom XL or an Axiom Pro made before September 2022, downgraded to LightHouse v3.11.42, can share a network with eS or gS displays; Axiom+ and the Axiom 2 range cannot.26,8
