Beneteau Oceanis 40.1
The Oceanis 40.1 is a 12.87 m cruising yacht that Beneteau presented in early 2020 and still builds; the hull is by Marc Lombard, deck and interior by Nauta Design. It has a flared hull with a step along its forward third, twin rudders and twin wheels, a transom that folds down into a swim platform, and two to four cabins with one or two heads. The standard boat has an in-mast furling mast with a self-tacking jib and a 45 hp Yanmar 4JH45 on a propeller shaft; a classic-mast pack and the First Line version with a longer mast and a 2.27 m keel were offered, and Beneteau names the Oceanis 41.1 as its predecessor. Beneteau publishes equipment lists and brochures but no owner’s manual: that comes from a dealer, or as a PDF by e-mail on request.

Good to know
- There is no saildrive on the Oceanis 40.1: the Yanmar 4JH45 turns a conventional propeller shaft, so the shaft seal, the coupling and the gearbox are what to check at a haul-out. Beneteau names no gearbox, so read its plate before ordering parts. The engine is reached through the companionway, which lifts on two gas struts, and through a panel in each aft cabin.1
- Find out which electronics a boat carries before buying cables, charts or spares: boats from the lists of 2020 to February 2022 have the B&G packs (Triton 2 display, Zeus 7″, NAC-3 autopilot, V60 VHF), boats from the June 2022 list the Raymarine packs (i70s, Axiom+ 7″, p70s autopilot, RAY73 VHF). Both were options, so a boat may have neither.11,10,5
- Up to the July 2024 lists the windlass, the 60 A charger and the extra service batteries came with the Comfort/Family trim level, so a boat without it may have only a chain locker and a bow roller; the October 2025 list makes all of this standard. The standard bank changed too: 2 × 115 Ah plus a 120 Ah engine battery up to November 2023, 2 × 95 Ah plus 100 Ah AGM in July 2024, 3 × 100 Ah plus 100 Ah AGM in October 2025. Check the bank and the charger before adding an inverter, air conditioning or lithium batteries.2,1,13
- Three keels were built: shallow 1.68 m, deep 2.17 m and the 2.27 m performance keel of the First Line version. The shallow keel carries the most ballast (2237 kg against 2007 kg on the deep one). Confirm keel and mast before comparing boats or planning a bridge passage: the air draft is 18.33 m with the standard mast and 18.78 m with the performance mast.1
- Look at the tanks on a survey: the lists quote 235 l of fresh water in the specification block but describe a single 195 l tank in the plumbing section, with an extra 330 l tank under the forward berth as an option, and Beneteau’s model page gives 330 l. The holding tanks are small, 80 l aft and 50 l forward in the two-head layouts.1,16
- Beneteau does not put the Oceanis 40.1 owner’s manual online, and it sells spare parts only through its dealers. Ask a Beneteau dealer for both and have the HIN/CIN ready (on the starboard side of the transom); if the dealer cannot supply the manual, Beneteau’s help centre explains how to ask for a PDF by e-mail. Engine documents come from Yanmar.18,19,20
