Bali Catspace
The Bali Catspace is a 12.31 m (40 ft) flybridge cruising catamaran from Bali Catamarans (Catana Group), announced in July 2019, shown to the public at boot Düsseldorf in January 2020 and built since 2020 by Chantier Catana: concept by Olivier Poncin, naval architecture by Lasta Design Studio, who also drew the original interior. Like the other Balis it has a solid foredeck with a forward cockpit instead of trampolines and the large tilting aft door, and unusually for 40 feet it adds a flybridge with the helm and forward cabins whose double berths lie athwartships; it comes with three cabins (owner’s suite in the port hull) or four cabins, each with its own bathroom. The standard engines were two Yanmar diesels of 19 to 21 hp with saildrives on the 2020 to 2023 spec sheets and two 19.6 hp Nanni N3.21 from the A-2024 sheet of May 2024. Do not mix it up with the Catspace MY, the motor version with shaft-driven 150 hp Yanmars, or with the slightly smaller Bali Catsmart. Bali publishes no owner’s manual (owner documents sit in a members’ area behind a login), so this page links the builder’s spec sheet for each model year instead.

Equipment & its manuals
Standard equipment as the builder’s documents list it. Boats were ordered with options and refitted since — check what is actually aboard.
| Item | Model | Manual / page | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine | Yanmar 19 hp × 21,2,3,4,5Standard on the spec sheets A-2021 to B-2023 (August 2020 to October 2022), with saildrives; option: 30 hp each | — | Bali names only the make and the rating, never the engine model; the YACHT test of 2020 speaks of two 20 hp Yanmars, and the A-2023/B-2023 headers and the 2023 brochure of 2 × 21 hp up to 40 hp. Mechanical (cable) engine controls at the helm. Read the engine plate before ordering filters, impellers or belts. |
| Engine | Nanni N3.21 × 26,7,8Standard from the A-2024 spec sheet (May 2024), also on A-2025: 19.6 hp each, saildrives; option: 2 × 37.5 hp | Nanni N3.21, N3.30, N4.38 & N4.50 Parts & service page | The French sheets name the N3.21; the English A-2025 sheet prints “N3.30” next to the same 19.6 hp, which does not fit (the N3.30 makes 29 hp). The bigger optional engine is not named. Both engine rooms are separated from the accommodation, each with its own fuel filter and water separator. |
| Propeller | —1,8,9All model years: two saildrives with fixed 2-blade propellers; 2-blade folding propellers as an option | — | Bali names neither the saildrive nor the propeller make. YACHT noted at the 2020 launch that the propellers sit far aft, behind the rudders, where they can catch a mooring line when manoeuvring. |
| Steering | —1,8,5All spec sheets: cable steering with a rigid link bar between two balanced spade rudders, one wheel at the raised starboard helm on the flybridge | — | The YACHT test boat of 2020 had a fully hydraulic system with the autopilot connected to it (a leak means steering with the emergency tiller), so check which system your boat has before ordering parts. The emergency tiller fits through a stainless deck cap in each sugarscoop. |
| Winches | 2 + 11,8,5All model years: one electric winch for the main halyard, the furling line and the davits (depending on the pack) and one for the solent sheet, mainsheet and reefing lines (electric as an option), plus an optional third winch to port for gennaker, code 0 or spinnaker sheets | — | Make and size not named. All lines lead to the helm on the flybridge; mainsheet on two 3-part tackles on the bimini, self-tacking solent on a coachroof track. |
| Windlass | 1000 W1,6,8,9All model years: vertical electric windlass (depending on the pack on the 2020 to 2023 sheets), with a corded remote control on the A-2025 sheet | — | Make not named. The windlass sits enclosed in a locker under a GRP hatch, with a stainless anchor roller under the platform; YACHT found the chain locker behind it hard to reach if the chain jams. |
| Sails | 45 m² + 30 m²1,10,8,5,11Full-batten Dacron mainsail with 3 reefs (49 m² on A-2021 and B-2022, 45 m² from A-2023) and a 30 m² self-tacking cross-cut Dacron solent on a furler | — | Sailmaker not named. Options: square-top mainsail, code 0 or gennaker on a bowsprit, asymmetric spinnaker. YACHT and Cruising World both found the boat under-canvassed in light air and recommend a code 0. |
| Mast & rigging | Aluminium1,6,8,7All model years: anodised aluminium mast and boom, two single-strand stainless cap shrouds; two lower shrouds added on the A-2025 sheet | — | Air draft 18.23 m (18.227 m on the 2020 to 2022 sheets). Mainsail luff cars: ball-bearing up to A-2024, “pencil” cars on A-2025. LED anchor, steaming and deck lights. Spar maker not named. |
| Autopilot | Raymarine P70S1,8,5Raymarine electronics Pack 1 on every sheet from A-2021 to A-2025 (Excellence Pack until B-2023, “according to chosen pack” later) | — | Bali names only the pilot control head, not the drive or the course computer. An optional Pack 2 exists; its contents are not listed. YACHT notes the pilot can be worked from the chart table by remote control. |
| Chartplotter | Raymarine Axiom 7″1,8Raymarine electronics Pack 1 on every sheet from A-2021 to A-2025, depending on the pack chosen | Raymarine Axiom Parts & service page | GPS chartplotter. The sheets say Axiom 7″ for every year without naming the generation; the label on the unit tells. |
| Instruments | Raymarine i70s1,8Raymarine electronics Pack 1 on every sheet from A-2021 to A-2025, depending on the pack chosen | Raymarine i70 & i70s Parts & service page | |
| VHF | Raymarine Ray631,8Raymarine electronics Pack 1 on every sheet from A-2021 to A-2025, depending on the pack chosen | — | |
| Fridge | 265 l (212 + 53)1,8,4All model years: household-style fridge with freezer compartment and its own inverter, in the galley | — | Make not named. A microwave is an option (2023 brochure). |
| Stove | —1,6,7,8,4All model years: 3-burner gas hob; gas oven depending on the pack (listed without the pack mark on the French A-2024 and A-2025 sheets) | — | Make not named. A gas plancha in the starboard aft cockpit locker is an option (2023 brochure). |
| Gas system | 13 kg1,8All model years: locker under the cockpit seat for a 13 kg bottle and a spare | — | |
| Toilet | —1,2,8All model years: a marine toilet in each bathroom (3 or 4) | — | Make and type not named. Black-water tanks 2 × 55 l. On the A-2021 sheet the optional ecological pack also included a membrane bioreactor that treats waste water; from B-2022 the pack lists only the fresh-water purification filter. |
| Water pump | —1,6,7,8All model years: pressurised fresh-water pump with expansion tank; hot and cold shower in a sugarscoop | — | Pump make not named. The shower is in the port sugarscoop on every sheet except the English A-2025, which says starboard. Watermaker optional from the A-2024 sheet; make and output not named. |
| Water heater | 60 l1,8All model years: heated electrically and by the engine cooling circuit | — | Make not named. |
| Bilge pump | 4 + 21,8All model years: 4 electric and 2 manual bilge pumps | — | Make not named. |
| Batteries | 2 + 2 × 130 Ah1,3,6,7,8All model years: 2 gel engine-start batteries (80 Ah on the English A-2021 sheet) and 2 × 130 Ah house batteries; 2 more house batteries depending on the pack | — | 12 V DC system: every French sheet and every English sheet up to B-2023 says 12 V; only the English A-2025 sheet prints 24 V while still listing 12 V alternators and a 12 V inverter, which looks like a misprint. Battery switch with manual emergency parallel, low-charge alarm at the chart table. Option: 2 extra 12 V alternators of 125 A (120 A on A-2025). |
| Charger | 12 V · 1600 VA / 70 A1,7,8All model years, depending on the pack: inverter-charger | — | Every sheet says 1600 VA and 70 A except the English A-2025, which prints 2000 VA and 70 A against 1600 VA in the French text of the same year, so read the label on the unit before ordering. Make not named. |
| Shore power | 230 V · 25 m2,8,1All model years: shore-power circuit with a 25 m cable and a socket in each cabin and the saloon; 220 V on the A-2021 sheet | — | |
| Doors | —1,8,4,11,9,5All model years: Bali tilting aft door in methacrylate with a sliding access door, lifted with gas-strut assistance depending on the pack; sliding side windows and a forward window that opens onto the forward cockpit | — | Unlike the larger Balis, the Catspace has no door from the saloon to the forward cockpit, only the opening window. YACHT found the gas-strut-assisted mechanism worked well on the test boat. |
| Davits | —1,8All model years, depending on the pack: dinghy davit at the stern, hoisted with the electric winch | — | Make not named. The aft bench links both sugarscoops; the liferaft stows in it with an automatic release. |
| Hatches & ports | —1,8,5All model years: 2 flush hatches to the forepeaks, 2 in the forward cabins, 2 GRP engine-room hatches on gas struts and 2 escape hatches (in the aft cabins on the A-2021 sheet, “under the stairs to cabins” on A-2025) | — | Makes not named. The forepeaks are the main storage for fenders, lines and sails, since the solid foredeck leaves no deck lockers forward. |

Good to know
- Check which engines the boat has: boats built to the A-2021 to B-2023 sheets left the yard with 19 to 21 hp Yanmar diesels (30 hp, later up to 40 hp, as an option), boats to the A-2024 and A-2025 sheets with 19.6 hp Nanni N3.21 (37.5 hp as an option). Bali never names the Yanmar model, and the English A-2025 sheet wrongly pairs “N3.30” with 19.6 hp, so read the engine plate before ordering filters, impellers or saildrive parts.1,10,6,7,8
- Much of the standard list depends on the pack: up to B-2023 the items marked with an asterisk came with the Excellence Pack, later “according to the chosen pack”, and the A-2025 sheet adds items that are optional on the charter version. That covers the windlass, the electric winch functions, Raymarine Pack 1 (P70S, Axiom 7″, i70s, Ray63), the inverter-charger, the extra house batteries, the gas oven and the davit, so go by the boat’s own inventory rather than its model-year sheet.1,3,8,7
- The spec sheets contradict each other in places, so do not take every figure literally: the A-2023 and B-2023 headers give 2 × 21 to 40 hp (15 to 29 kW in English) while their engine section keeps 19 hp and a 30 hp option, the French A-2021 text calls 11.42 m the hull length where the English says waterline, the headline water capacity of 760 l sits next to a 700 l tank, and the English A-2025 sheet prints 24 V, a 2000 VA inverter-charger and a starboard shower where the French one says 12 V, 1600 VA and port.10,3,1,8,7
- Find out how the boat is steered before ordering steering parts: every spec sheet lists cable steering with a rigid link bar, but the boat YACHT tested in 2020 had a fully hydraulic system with the autopilot connected to it, where a leak in the lines leaves only the emergency tiller.1,8,5
- At a survey, look at the stub keels and the chain locker: YACHT reports that the keels are bonded, not bolted, so that they break away in a hard grounding, which makes the joint worth a close look after any grounding, and found the chain locker behind the enclosed windlass hard to reach if the chain jams.5,9
- A listing that just says “Bali Catspace” may be the motor version: the Catspace MY is 12.93 m long and runs on two shaft-driven 150 hp Yanmars with KMH50 gearboxes and 4-blade propellers (250 hp as an option), so none of its engine or drive parts fit the sailing boat. The smaller Bali Catsmart is a separate model again.15,17
