Fountaine Pajot Lavezzi 40
The Lavezzi 40 is an 11.90 m cruising catamaran by Fountaine Pajot, with hull and sail plan by Joubert-Nivelt and styling and interior by Olivier Flahault, built at the yard in Aigrefeuille near La Rochelle. Announced early in 2002, it was the yard’s first boat with hulls and bridge deck moulded by resin infusion; it was still in the builder’s range in March 2010 and gone by August 2010, its place taken by the Lipari 41 announced in June 2009. It came with four double cabins and two bathrooms (called ‘Four-Two’ from 2006) or as the Maestro, with the owner’s suite in the starboard hull. The engines changed over the years: two 18 hp Yanmar saildrive diesels at launch, 2 × 20 hp from 2004, Volvo named instead of Yanmar from September 2005, and some boats have 2 × 30 hp Yanmars; the alternators went from 55 A to 115 A in 2006. Fountaine Pajot publishes no owner’s manual online: six archived revisions of its standard inventory, from 2002 to 2008, are the best record of what was fitted, and documentation goes through its owner’s requests form, which still lists the Lavezzi 40.

Manuals & documents
Fountaine Pajot publishes no owner’s manual for the Lavezzi 40: owners ask for documentation through the builder’s request form or its extranet login (the first two links). Most other links are archived copies of the builder’s own pages and PDFs from 2002 to 2010, among them six revisions of the standard inventory; the magazine tests are mostly the builder’s own copies, and each describes one test boat, not the standard specification. We host nothing.

Equipment & its manuals
Standard equipment as the builder’s documents list it. Boats were ordered with options and refitted since — check what is actually aboard.
| Item | Model | Manual / page | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine | Yanmar 18 hp × 21,2,3,4At launch: ‘2 × 18 hp’ saildrive engines and Yanmar as the engine make in the September 2002 inventory and on the April 2002 model page; the July 2004 inventory has 20 hp | — | The inventory gives make and power only, plus heat-exchanger cooling, a raw-water filter, dual controls and an hour meter at the helm. The builder’s figures in YACHT’s 2004 test name the type as Yanmar 2GM, 13 kW/18 hp, and SEGELN’s 2002 test boat had 19 hp (13.5 kW) Yanmars with saildrive. An 18 hp 2GM with heat-exchanger cooling would be the 2GM20F, but read the engine plate before ordering parts. |
| Engine | Yanmar 20 hp × 25,6,7‘2 × 20 hp sail drive engines’ with Yanmar as the engine make in the inventories of July 2004 and March 2005 | — | The builder names no type. Read the engine plate before ordering filters, impellers, anodes or belts. |
| Engine | Volvo Penta 20 hp × 28,9,10,11From the September 2005 inventory, which names Volvo as the engine make; the June 2006 and January 2008 inventories give ‘2 × 20 hp’ without a make | — | The builder names no type, so read the engine plate: for a boat built from 2006 even the make is not documented. |
| Engine | Yanmar 30 hp × 212,13Not in the inventories; the builder’s own used-boat pages of 2007 offered a 2003 and a 2005 Lavezzi 40, both four-cabin, with 2 × 30 hp Yanmar | — | Type not named; read the plate before ordering parts. |
| Saildrive | Saildrive × 21,7,11,3All boats (‘sail drive’ engines in every inventory from 2002 to 2008); make and type of the legs not named | — | The engines sit in separate compartments aft, sound-insulated and reached through deck hatches in the cockpit (inventories, YACHT 2004). Read the plate on each leg before ordering seals, anodes or a propeller. |
| Propeller | Fixed 2-blade × 21,5,7,9,11,3Two fixed two-blade propellers, right-hand pitch, in the 2002 to 2005 inventories; ‘2 × 2-blade propellers’ in 2006 and fixed two-blade in 2008; size not given | — | YACHT’s 2004 test boat had folding propellers, so check which kind is fitted before ordering a spare or anodes. |
| Fuel filter | Pre-filter/water separator + engine filter1,7,9,11One fuel pre-filter with water separator plus the engine filter for each engine, all inventories 2002 to 2008 | — | One 250 l aluminium tank filled through a deck plate in the cockpit bench locker, electric gauge on the 12 V panel, fuel shut-off valves in the cockpit seat locker. |
| Alternators | 12 V × 2: 55 A, from 2006 115 A1,5,7,8,9,11Two 55 A/12 V engine alternators in the 2002 to September 2005 inventories; two 115 A/12 V from the June 2006 inventory | — | |
| Batteries | 300 Ah + 100 Ah1,7,9,11All inventories 2002 to 2008: a 300 Ah service/engine bank to starboard and a 100 Ah engine battery to port; battery type not given | — | Charging relay and a manual emergency link between the banks; 12 V panel at the chart table with circuit breakers and a voltmeter for the service batteries. |
| Winches | Lewmar 40 ST × 2 · 44 ST × 21,5,6,7Lewmar in the 2002 inventory and in the English inventories of July 2004 and March 2005: two size 40 self-tailing winches for halyards and reef lines, two size 44 for the mainsheet and genoa sheets, all on the coachroof side | Lewmar Ocean & EVO winches Parts & service page | The French inventory of July 2004 names Harken instead, so look at the drum top before ordering a service kit. Clutches: Spinlock (inventories 2002 to 2005). |
| Winches | Harken 40 STC × 2 · 44 STC × 26,8,9,11Harken in the French inventory of July 2004 and in the September 2005 inventory, same sizes and positions; the 2006 and 2008 inventories give ‘40 STC’ and ‘44 STC’ without a maker | Harken Radial & Classic winches Parts & service page | For a boat built from 2006 the maker is not documented: check the winch before ordering parts. |
| Windlass | 1000 W, 12 V1,5,7,8,9,11Electric windlass in every inventory; Goiot in the 2002 inventory, Lofrans in the inventories of July 2004 to September 2005, no maker named in 2006 and 2008 | — | Type not named. Good to know
- Fountaine Pajot publishes no owner’s manual or equipment list for the Lavezzi 40 online. For documentation or spare parts use its owner’s requests form, which still lists the Lavezzi 40, and give the hull number. The best record of what a boat left the yard with is the standard inventory of its year: six revisions from September 2002 to January 2008 are archived on archive.org.20,1,11
- Check the engines before ordering anything: the builder fitted 2 × 18 hp Yanmar at launch (Yanmar 2GM in its figures for YACHT), 2 × 20 hp Yanmar by July 2004 and named Volvo from September 2005, and its own used-boat pages of 2007 show 2003 and 2005 boats with 2 × 30 hp Yanmar. For boats from 2006 the inventories give no make at all, so filters, impellers, anodes and saildrive seals go by the engine and leg plates.1,2,3,5,8,9,11,12,13
- The deck gear changed makes too: the winches are Lewmar in the 2002 inventory and the English ones of 2004 and March 2005 but Harken in the French one of July 2004 and in that of September 2005; the 1000 W windlass is Goiot in 2002 and Lofrans from 2004; the fridge is Waeco in 2002 and Indel from 2004, growing from 110 l to 130 l in 2005. Look at the unit itself before ordering a service kit or spare.1,5,6,7,8,10
- Fountaine Pajot’s Goiot escape-hatch recall of 2018 covers its boats built from 1 January 2012 to 31 August 2018 and names the models concerned; the Lavezzi 40, built until 2010, is not among them, even though its deck hatches and portlights are Goiot according to the inventories.15,1,7
- YACHT’s 2004 test marked the gas connection on its test boat as not meeting the standard. The gas locker is built into the foredeck locker; have the whole installation inspected when buying.3,7,11
- No anchor or chain came with the boat: the inventories list only an anchor roller for a Britany or CQR anchor and a bridle under the bridge deck, and YACHT’s 2004 price list sold a 21 kg anchor with 60 m of 10 mm chain as an extra. Match any new chain to the windlass gypsy, not to the brochure.1,7,11,3
