Hanse · Sailing yacht

Hanse 418

The Hanse 418 is a 12.40 m cruising yacht from HanseYachts AG in Greifswald, Germany, designed by judel/vrolijk & co with an interior by HanseYachts Design; it was one of four new models (348, 388, 418 and 548) that Hanse presented in Cannes, and the builder’s model history dates it 2017–2026. It has a self-tacking jib, twin wheels, a cast-iron L-keel in two drafts and a diesel of about 39 hp on a saildrive, with about 57 hp as an option; Hanse names neither the engine maker nor the saildrive. There is one version, but the builder’s dated lists change the details: Quantum instead of Elvström sails and new draft and weight figures from July 2020, revised sail areas from April 2021, synthetic teak instead of teak in the 2025 list. There is no public owner’s manual: it comes with the boat, and Hanse’s owners area with manuals, wiring plans and drawings needs registration with the boat’s CE code or Sentinel ID.

Manuals & documents

Hanse publishes no owner’s manual for the 418: it is part of the standard delivery, and the owners area with the manuals of the installed equipment, technical documents, wiring plans and drawings needs registration with the boat’s CE code or Sentinel ID. The links go to the builder’s document server (the dated specification and standard-equipment lists from March 2020 to April 2025, the two 2020 brochures, the 2025 colour card and the 2017 drawings), its model-history page and archived versions of the model page and of the 2020 configurator with its option list. We host no documents.

Read the engine plate before you order a manual or parts: the power alone does not identify the engine.

Windlass—5,9,1,3Option in the Cruising Package (configurator of August 2020): electric windlass with automatic fuse and remote control with chain counter; make not named—The standard lists have only an anchor locker and a bow fitting for anchor and forestay, so a boat without a windlass is as delivered.

Mast & rigging—1,10,3,5,4,12Standard: anodised aluminium deck-stepped rig with kicker, standing and running rigging and two reefs; a furling mast is drawn in the 2017 sail plans and every list gives a furling-main area · Performance Package: Seldén MDS mainsail slider system—The rig maker is not named. Good to know

  • Hanse’s figures depend on the list date. Up to the list of 13 March 2020, and in the July 2020 brochure E/0720, the medium keel draws 2.10 m and the boat weighs about 9.80 t (shallow keel 10.10 t); from 1 July 2020 it is 2.07 m and 10.15 t (10.41 t). Go by the build date and the CE plate before you compare adverts.1,6,11
  • Hanse names neither the diesel nor the saildrive in any 418 document, only the power. Photograph the engine plate and the plate on the saildrive leg, then take manuals and parts from those makers.1,3,7
  • The standard boat has only two Lewmar 45 ST EVO halyard winches. A second pair and electric Lewmar winches were options, so count what is fitted. EVO winches come apart without tools: unscrew the top cap by hand.1,5,7,8
  • The original sails date the boat: Elvström in the list of 13 March 2020, Quantum from 1 July 2020. The gennaker and crossover areas grew in the list of 1 April 2021 (120.00 to 134.70 m² and 76.90 to 86.00 m²) without an explanation, so measure the old sail before you order a new one.1,11,14
  • The owner’s manual comes with the boat but is not public. Register in Hanse’s owners area with the CE code or the Sentinel ID to get the manuals of the installed equipment, technical documents, wiring plans and drawings in the Sentinel Marine Solutions app or web app; when you buy used, ask the seller for the CE code.13,3
  • Hanse bonds the deck to the hull and also bolts it through the cleats, and sets the cast-iron keel in an epoxy bed on stainless keel bolts. At a survey, look at the cleat bolts from below and at the keel-to-hull joint, above all after a grounding.7,5
