Outremer 45
The name Outremer 45 covers two different catamarans from Outremer in La Grande-Motte (France), both with two daggerboards and two saildrives. The first, drawn by the yard’s founder Gérard Danson, appeared in 2000, when the prototype won its class in that year’s single-handed transatlantic race, and stayed in the range until the yard announced a successor in 2013: 13.70 m long, with the wheel at a helm station to port, and forty boats built by 2009 according to the yard. The second, by Barreau/Neuman with Patrick Le Quément and Darnet Design, was launched in 2014 with a helm station at the centre of the boat (tillers were an option at first), has had the extended transoms (48 ft, about 14.6 m) as standard since 2017, reached hull 100 in 2025 and has been built in Lorient since April 2024; the 4X is its performance sister. Outremer’s spec sheets only give the power – 2 × 28–29 hp for the Danson boat, 2 × 30 hp and since 2026 2 × 38 hp for the new one – but the yard’s own sales listings show Yanmar 3GM30 on a 2003 Danson boat, Volvo Penta D1-30 on Barreau/Neuman boats up to hull 90 (2024) and Nanni N4.38 on the Lorient boats, so read the engine plate before ordering parts. There is no owner’s manual online: owners get their documents through the yard’s MyOutremer platform and parts through its after-sales service.

The yard’s sales listings name 2 × Yanmar 3GM30 for hull 21 (built 2003) | Yanmar 3GM30F Parts & service page | Our 3GM30F page covers the fresh-water-cooled 3GM30; a later Danson boat may have its successor, the 3YM30, or a Volvo Penta, so read the plate on each engine first. |

| Winches | Lewmar, electric at the helm19,10,12,13Barreau/Neuman 45: the yard’s page describes hoisting the mainsail with the electric winch at the helm; the 2016 and 2017 boats the yard sold had Lewmar electric winches (two on the 2016 boat) | Lewmar Ocean & EVO winches Parts & service page | Sizes are not published. |

Good to know
- Both generations are sold simply as the Outremer 45. The Danson boat (2000–2013) is 13.70 m long and 7.20 m wide and is steered with a wheel at a helm station to port; the Barreau/Neuman boat (since 2014) is steered from a helm station at the centre of the boat, by tiller on the boats the yard describes today (tillers were an option in 2014), and with the extended transoms, standard since 2017, is about 14.6 m long. On the second generation the three digits after FRAOM45 in the hull identification number are the hull number: the yard lists hull 90 as FRAOM45090… and hull 102 as FRAOM45102….29,5,8,19,17,21
- Check which engines a Barreau/Neuman 45 has before ordering filters, impellers or belts: the yard’s own listings show Volvo Penta D1-30 up to hull 90, the last boat from La Grande-Motte in April 2024, and Nanni N4.38 on hulls 94 and 102 from Lorient, and the yard’s page went from 2 × 30 hp to 2 × 38 hp in 2026. Boats with the SailCharge option have electric saildrives and a generator instead.17,20,21,18,11,19,22
- For the Danson 45, Outremer’s documents give only the power, and in 2001 buyers could choose between Volvo Penta and Yanmar. The only make the yard names for a Danson boat is the pair of Yanmar 3GM30 in hull 21 (2003), so a boat from another year may well have different engines: read the plate before buying parts.1,2,5,6,7
- Outremer lists what changed on the Barreau/Neuman 45 year by year: extended transoms optional until 2017 and standard since, a structure almost 500 kg lighter from 2018, davits, bimini and gennaker fittings standard from 2019, and CZone digital switching from 2020. On an older boat these items may be missing or retrofitted, which matters when you order davit, bimini or switching parts.19,31,10
- The yard designed the Barreau/Neuman 45 for a payload of 2.5 t and asks owners not to exceed it; its FAQ also warns that heavy extras such as a generator or air conditioning cost speed and comfort at sea. Weigh what you add, from batteries to a watermaker.19,10
- Outremer publishes no owner’s manual online. Its after-sales team is the first contact for spare parts and technical work on new and second-hand boats alike, and owners keep their boat’s documents on the MyOutremer platform; for a Danson 45, the archived spec sheets and the 2001 options list linked above show what was fitted as standard.32,33,1,3
